To escape detection, they plan to hide in Hudson Bay.
Hudson Bay is a large body of saltwater in northeastern Canada with a surface area of 1,230,000 km. It drains a very large area, about 3,861,400 km, which includes parts of southeastern Nunavut, Saskatchewan, most of Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and indirectly through smaller passages of water to parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Montana.

Back to the story, some men from U-37 are sent for supplies, and in the process of setting up a German outpost. Needless to say, at that point, U-37 is dispatched.
Now the survivors must decide how to cope in a hostile land. The Canadians even throw insults. Insult above insult, they make them change from their uniforms into leather jackets. People even ran from them when told not to. Will the NSDAP members survive their peril? Or will someone fall off the twig? They may even be surrounded by Hutterische Brüder.
We get speeches like out of Ayn Rand or a Shakespeare soliloquy. The speeches may be a little one-sided and lengthy, but they are the movie.
Incredibly good filming and timing. You can see the Director: Michael Powell and Writer: Emeric Pressburger touch; added to this is the cinematography of Freddie Young and the editing of David Lean. I was surprised to find the musical score by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Just one little glaring faux pas; the train that is supposed to be going over the border to the US is going in the wrong direction, over the river to Canada.
I only saw the actual 49th parallel a few times. The section near Glacier Park is just a clearing of trees as far as you can see. Around Niagara is just a station, but no definitive view. In any case, it is a good name for the movie.
