Each poem is specifically about transition, either physically or mentally. Every transition reveals a hidden connection, in the same way changing a geographical or intellectual position reveals a difference between an old viewpoint and a new viewpoint. As indicated by the title, no matter how unique we are, every single aspect of ourselves can be classified or categorised as sharing aspects of a larger group, like unique islands sharing a single sea. Our connection (or commonality) with a larger group that shares with us a general structure (from preferences to prejudices) may be hidden from ourselves, but they can often be seen very clearly by other people. These poems show us our hidden connections to other groups.
