444 Days is a very interesting book because the author spends very little time explain what happened and quotes the hostages extensively. The result is a collection of quotes from many of the participants presented with commentary by the author to provide structure. I really liked this book because of its easy reading and format. It did provide a much greater perspective of the hostage situation at the embassy. How they were treated, why they were moved, how some of them escaped through the Canadian embassy, etc. It also provides keen insight on what it takes for a person to be taken hostage for such a period of time and remain mentally as intact as possible. The book also answered some personal questions I had about the extent of some people who were involved with the take over and how they performed under the tremendous stress of the situation. This book makes an excellent companion to Col. Scott's book Pieces of the Game.
