What would you give for one way to love your cat that they would allow to work?

D.H. Love, the author of "365 Ways to Love your Lover," has moved on to an even harder subject with "365 Ways to Love your Cat." That is because you can try to love your cat any way you want, the key question is whether your cat will allow you that prerogative. I mean, when I started reading this book aloud to our cat, Kiara, she totally ignored me. I was going to take umbrage at her apathy, but then I remembered I am the only person on the face of the earth that she does not try to bite and that every night when I got to bed she gets in the way and lies on her bad so I can put my foot on my tummy and spin her around, so I figured I should just shut up and be grateful. The advice being given here is, for the most part, quite practical, although Love clearly tries to be amusing as well as helpful with some of these fun tips. Some of what is in here will be commonsense to any long-term cat owner, but even if you are not a neophyte you are going to easily find dozens of ways you have not thought of trying before and the bottom line is that it cannot hurt. Love does not assume that all cats are the same. The preface talks about pedigreed or stray, longhaired or short, but Love pays more attention to the different temperaments exhibited by domestic felines. This book is better suited for somebody thinking about getting a cat or just getting used to having something small and new ruling the roost, but anybody who has one or more cats in their life will find something of value in this list. To be clear, there is no real logical order to these 365 tips, so do not think that this is one of those books that starts with January 1st and ends with December 31st. You can certainly use it that way, proceeding from start to finish or jumping around and hoping that the Fates are kind to you and bring you to the tips that will help you love your cate sooner than later. "365 Ways to Love your Cat" is illustrated by Jane Watkins, who put together a border for each page, which is then reversed on the opposite page, and then worked in another dozen-plus pencil drawings of cats to make the pages look different to go along with the little drawings of cat related objects between the number and the specific way to love your cat. Final note: On the copyright page it is noted "It is not the intention of the author or the publisher that you should follow any instructions concerning the care of your cat over than those of your vet." Now, I do not know if our cat has a vet, but I can envision calling them up to make sure that keeping your cat's bowl clean or stroking her as she's falling asleep would be unhealthy. I would be curious to know what objections a vet would have to you keeping a special album with photos of you and your cat, but I will admit there is a practical answer out there as to where you should lift a cat given way #177, "Never grab a cat just any old place when you are lifting her.
