People love the convenience of their slow cookers. What could be better than walking in the door after a hard day's work to the smell of beef stew, ready and waiting? A beef stew that only requires... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I just began a new schedule and I was having a very hard time adjusting to having dinner on the table and not getting home until 6:30 at night. My daughter was starving by then so I couldn't just start cooking - I needed something ready when I got home. Hence the slow cooker meals. I tried using the slow cooker recipes that I found in other cookbooks but the food prep before hand meant that I would have to wake up 2 hours earlier just to chop, dice and assemble. This cookbook is so easy and the recipes are quite good! I love it. Put the main ingredient in and add some prepared soup, gravy, spices, fruit, etc and voila...when you come home it is done. Now, I said prepared ingredients. My biggest objection to the book is that the recipes call for a lot of prepared/processed ingredients that I would not normally cook with. But, I figure that it is a whole lot better for you than a meal from a fast food restaurant or eating out. I usually serve the meal with rice/potatoes/noodles that I prepare the night before and heat up in the microwave plus a fresh or frozen veggy. If you are a busy person who needs help with feeding your family - this book will not disappoint you.
Wonderful Cookbook

I love this cookbook! The recipes are so easy. Each one I have tried has turned out great. I love that a lot of the recipes have all the ingredients non-perishable except the meat, so I can stock up on the pantry ingredients and all I have to buy is the meat.

Not just for pot roasts!

I was pleasantly surprised by this cookbook. I was one of those people who thought slow cookers were just for pot roasts. Not so. In addition to main entrees, Bonet includes recipes for beverages, breakfasts, and desserts. I never would have thought to try some of the foods she suggests in my slow cooker. For example, I tried the Breakfast Casserole and it turned out great! Plus, I enjoyed not having to cook breakfast in the morning. It was nice to have it ready and waiting for me when I got up. I've also tried the Peachy Chicken and it was good too. Next on my list are the recipes for Santa Fe Chicken and Acorn Squash. I'm glad I have this cookbook. I think I'm really going to save some time!
Not a Cook and I like this Book

I received this book as a gift. I'm not a cook; therefore, people buy books like this for me. This particular one is quite useful. The first few sections have short but to the point information about cooking with a slow cooker. My sister-in-law and I tried the Santa Fe Black Bean recipe with mild salsa, and it had a nice balanced flavor. We were both reading the recipes and many look easy and sound like good eating. Ms. Bonet adds lots of notes with extra suggestions at the bottom to dress up the food. I've ended up ordering 4 copies of this book--one for my sister-in-law. Ms. Bonet did a nice job with this book.
