Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Headquarters, Branches and Services Commander Royal Engineers, 3rd Division, covering September 1914 to October 1919 across 441 pages. It names 80 places across 115 dated entries. Alongside the daily entries the volume carries one casualty and personnel return, fourteen reports, narratives and plans, four Operation Orders, 34 appendices and three diagrams. The diary opens on 21 September 1914. 1914 is spent at Westoutre, Reinforcement 15 Sappers, Composite Company and Bricks. 1916 at Reninghelst, Bus-Les-Artois, Fletre, Nordausque and Westoutre. 1917 at Warlus, Arras, Canaples, Advanced Divl. H.Q and Behagnies. 1918 is the most travelled year, 38 places against 24 in the next busiest, and is spent at Labeuvriere, Boisleux-au-Mont, Gomiecourt, Sunken Road Marchies-Beugny and Flesquieres. 1919 at Cologne and Duren. It closes at Cologne on 28 October 1919. Cologne is where it spent longest, 143 days across three separate stays, it came back to Warlus five separate times, and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 117 days at Labeuvriere. Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Triangle Copse Nr Gomiecourt. In 1916 it is also recorded at Wemaers Cappel, Samank, Tilques, Le Meillard, Olincourt, Corbie, Bray, Treux, Forked Tree and Bernaville. In 1917 it is also recorded at Flers, Villers-Chatel, Lignereuil, Le Cauroy, Liencourt, Watou, Poperinghe, Ramparts Ypres, Ypres and Winnezeele. In 1918 it is also recorded at Bretencourt, Lucheux, Bruay, Fouquieres, Oblinghem, Auchel, Bavincourt, Pommier, Hamlincourt and Ransart. In 1919 it is also recorded at Cologne LRS.
