On Civilization is a theoretical work that seeks to rebuild a civilizational theory from within Chinese civilization itself, grounding it in a historical narrative of at least eight thousand years. Rejecting the narrow focus on technological progress, it argues that Chinese civilization is fundamentally oriented toward the cultivation of the complete human person. At its core, the book proposes that morality, knowledge, and ritual propriety constitute the three pillars of human fulfillment and social governance. Drawing on archaeoastronomy and classical texts such as the I Ching and the Book of Documents, it reveals astronomy as the source of civilization and challenges state-centric definitions of civilization. The book also offers a new interdisciplinary framework for tracing the origins of civilization, with important implications for the contemporary project of Chinese-style modernization. 《文明论》是一部以重建中华文明己身文明理论为宗旨的理论著作，为重建中华文明的历史奠定了基础。中华文明以成人之道为其根本追求，而并不强调单纯的技术进步。作者重建了以三要三本为核心内涵的文明理论，提出道德为成人之本，知识为立身之本，礼仪为治世之本。揭示了天文作为文明之源的事实，重建了中华文明根植于八千年天文观与文德实践的信史。全书通过解析《周易》《尚书》《诗经》等经典，揭示天文与人文的内在关联，批判以国家形态定义文明的局限性，主张回归己身文明的标准。作者论述了中华文明以文德观与宇宙观所构建的两大核心思想，并通过天文考古学视角论证中华文明至少八千年的历史。终章展望了人类文明的未来，凸显了中华文明可持续发展的宇宙观与人文智慧，为文明探源提供了跨学科的研究新范式，对中国式现代化的建设也具有积极的现实意义。 冯时，1958年10月生于北京市。1982年毕业于北京大学历史系考古专业。现任中国社会科学院学部委员，国家文科一级教授，中国社会科学院考古研究所研究员，中国社会科学院大学教授、博士生导师，郑州大学特聘教授，中国社会科学院古文字学学科带头人。享受国务院政府特殊津贴。兼任中国历史研究院学术咨询委员会委员、中国郭沫若研究会副会长、中国古文字研究会理事等职。主要研究领域为古文字学与天文考古学，旁治商周考古学、先秦史、天文年代学、历史文献学、民族古文字学、古代思想史和科技史。开创性地建立中国天文考古学体系，揭示中国文字起源夷夏两源史事。出版学术著作12部，发表论文260余篇，主编《金文文献集成》。È
