2150 The World Upside Down: The Laughter of the Human Animal

Story Intro:

In the year 2150, the planet's population was drastically reduced due to many generations of wars. Nearly all of the men on the planet had been lost in battle or by a disease, leaving the ratio between women and men a staggering 99-1%.

Females formed tribes and colonies and hunted down the remaining men, who had become treasured commodities. They were often taken against their will and forced to work in households as mechanics, cooks, and laborers, many times in submission to their captors.

In some cases, rather than trading with currency, the males were traded as stocks - commodities owned and traded freely. Some women valued the men highly, keeping them as personal slaves for sexual purposes, while others treated them with coldness and disdain.

But the men had a hidden weakness - something in their genetic code that caused them to contract a deadly disease, and it was difficult to treat with present medical resources. As a result, most of the men that were captured were soon dead, and the population imbalance became even more critical.

This period of women's true dominance would come to be known as the time of the Antebellum. These courageous women would face much in their struggle for survival, and their stories will continue to be told for centuries to come.
