The Worldwide Olympic Committee (IOC) recognizes the Badminton World Federation (BWF) as the badminton sport's international governing organization (IOC). With nine member states, the International Badminton Federation (IBF) was established in 1934. (Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales). The IBF and the World Badminton Federation joined in 1981, and on September 24, 2006, during the organization's Extraordinary General Meeting in Madrid, its name was changed to Badminton World Federation (BWF). [2] Cheltenham, in the United Kingdom, served as the BWF's headquarters when it was established (as the IBF). On October 1, 2005, the headquarters moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. [3] The leader at the moment is Poul-Erik Hyer Larsen. [4] 176 countries presently participate in the BWF, which is divided into 5 continental confederations.
