2012

Dr. Adrian Helmsley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is part of a worldwide geophysical team investigating the effect radiation from unprecedented solar storms is having on the earth. Helmsley learns that the earth's core is heating up. He warns U.S. President Thomas Wilson (Danny Glover) that the crust of the earth is becoming unstable and unless they steps to prepare for saving a fraction of the world's population, the entire race is doomed. Meanwhile, writer Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) stumbles on the same information. While the world's leaders race to build "arks" to escape the impending cataclysm, Curtis struggles to find a way to save his family. Meanwhile, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes of unprecedented strength wreak havoc around the world.

This is just another run of the mill disaster movie.

Looks like the Mayans were right. Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) is starting to put two and two together. Yep, sunspots, neutrinos, and planet alignment spell kaput for the world. However, wait, doomsayer Charlie Frost (Woody Harrelson) finds the governments of the world have found a way out. Can Curtis save his estranged family and the doctor/pilot who usurped his wife and half a dozen other assorted characters? Alternatively, do they learn what dust to dust means? We hope this is not one of those wimpy movies wherein the end, the people of the earth hold hands and sing Kumbayah. I only saw the Blu-ray version, so I cannot compare. However, you are treated to a seemingly endless Blu-ray and BD live commercial. Then you are bombarded with choices that have nothing to do with the film. All I wanted to do was see the film, not press buttons every time it was flagged. The fun part is recognizing the different actors and saying, "Now where have I seen him/her before?"
