Peter was concerned that false teachers were infiltrating the church. He admonished Christians to mature and nurture a strong faith so that they could recognise and oppose apostasy. He emphasised the authenticity of Scripture the return of Jesus Christ. As Christians living today we seem to be closer to Jesus' return than the first century believers. We see many false teachers in our society, leading believers astray. Peter promotes Bible knowledge so that Christians can discern the truth. The foundation of our faith today, is just as important as Peter stressed it to be for the early church.
