Helpfully opinionated guide

This pocket-sized book does what few other guide books do: it sifts through the overwhelming possibilities of Italy to suggest a specific itinerary to squeeze the most out of limited time. It gives precise, detailed directions and shortcuts to the good stuff. Author Steves's taste in what's-worth-seeing-and-doing is close enough to mine that I can trust his advice. The only defect for me and other older travelers seeking creature comforts is that his choices for lodging run more toward the budget back-packer's.
