One day we were looking around the bookshop at an English Heritage site, and I began recommending a certain book to my eldest daughter. I could confidently give that recommendation because I had never read the book. As I continued extolling the virtues of the book, we became aware that a lady was listening intensely to our conversation. She then went and bought a copy of the said book; we, of course, left without doing so. The book in question was entitled 1066 and all that. Well, I had to call this particular book something and 1966 and all that suggested itself. I only hope that anyone who has never read this book, will recommend it to others, and I do not care if they stand in an English Heritage bookshop or not. This book contains recollections made by various individuals, from not just the 60s, but, well before and after. As the narrative develops, it assumes more of the character of a polemic than simply a history.
