1957 - Caseville News and Local events It is an interesting story of the great people who made Caseville, Michigan what it is today. A tourist town and more. A wonderful place to vacation and a great city to live in. This is the second year of the Tom Thumb newspaper. 1957 was a busy year with many twists and turns. I hope you enjoy this story as you come to know and appreciate these families. They make America Great. They prayed together, played together, and worked together for the good of their schools, churches, and community. By 1957 most of the early industry was gone. The forests quickly became farmland, of the richest kind, and the Lake Huron shoreline of Huron county hosted many cottages, motels, restaurants, and vacationers flocked to the great beach in Caseville. The earliest newspapers in Caseville were: Caseville Advertiser - January 1874 - 21 January 1875 Caseville Critic - January 1894 - 30 July 1908 Caseville Record - August 1887 - 8 December 1887 Caseville Tom Thumb News - August 1956 - 25 May 1960 Mr. Wurst decided reprint the Caseville Tom Thumb Newspaper, for a personal reason. When he opened a store in Caseville in 1973, the store building was between Riverside and Nugent's Drug store. The owners were the Quinns, and they agreed to rent the building for the summer. As Mr. Wurst was setting up the store with our clothing and gifts, he and his sister, Lorna, took a peek downstairs. Having been the editor of his Laker High School newspaper, he was fascinated with the lead printing type and assorted newspapers of the Tom Thumb news. When Mr. Wurst saw that The Historical Society of Caseville had those papers available online, He decided to do turn them into a book.
