Book Overview

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

"Uketsu's strange riddles are chilling and addictive" - R. F. Kuang, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Babel and Yellowface

From the bestselling author of Strange Houses and Strange Pictures comes a new unsettling mystery--eleven strange buildings, each with its own twisted floor plan and eerie backstory, and a terrible secret that connects them all.

A lonely hut in the woods.

A murder house.

A hidden chamber.

A mysterious shrine.

A home in flames.

A nightmarish prison.

After receiving multiple tips from his devoted readership, a writer fascinated by the occult put together eleven case files, each featuring its very own strange building. Each of the eleven structures in this book has a floor plan that conceals a disturbing architectural quirk: from disappearing rooms to apartments with no means of escape. Each buildings tells its own chilling story. And each is part of a grander puzzle. Look closely . . . and you'll see that everything is connected. All leading to a revelation so horrifying you won't want to believe it.

Millions of readers have become addicted to solving Uketsu's dark mysteries. Strange Buildings is the strangest, and darkest, of them all.

One of the most unique and engaging books I've ever read

My wife grabbed this for me while on a layover at the airport. I read it straight through in four days. The author's perspective is someone working on weird or strange "cases" in various homes. They're all linked together through several connections, which you can work out while reading. At the end, the author reviews his findings. I love the floor plans throughout the book, as they add great detail while offering pieces of the puzzles. It's amazing, hard to explain liminal-esque horror. Highly recommended if you like true crime (which is not my usual haunt), or mysteries with a "this could really happen" slant. No magic or cosmic Eldritch happenings, just a neat thought out puzzler of a book. Now I'm off to grab his other two!

A fun mystery told in pictures

Strange Buildings is the follow up novel to Strange Houses, although the story can be read separately without losing any important points. In this volume our author has put together 11 case files, all seemingly unconnected unless you look closely. The floor plans of these buildings and the stories that are connected are each unique. Sometimes you catch a hint of connection, sometimes you don't. The ending chapter sums it all up beautifully, and even offers up a twist that I never suspected. A must have if you enjoyed Strange Houses! Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read the eARC
