This is one of my favorite book on the sermon illustrations. The word of God used as illustration to enlighten and illuminate the passage at hand is double blessing for the hearers AND preachers alike. While modern illustrations gather their anecdotes from newspapers, movies, stories, and real life biographies, this book solely gathers illustrations from the Holy Bible, which is timeless. Since the Bible is relevant in any age, so the illustrations from the Bible is also relevant. 1. The book is nicely divided into topics (1800 topical headings) and arranged alphabetically and numbered (10,029 in all). And most of the topics are also cross-referenced (30,000 of them) for similar topics as well so that you can glean various Biblical illustrations. 2. It has a "textual index" at the end of the book for further usefulness. Every Biblical illustration is indexed with passage reference and number, so you can check how the passage is used. 3. Fonts can be bothersome however. It is not easy on your eyes. The book was printed before computer age, so the letters seemed to be typed. All in all, I heartily recommend this book to any preacher or writer.
