Best New Parent Book

I ordered five books on a babies first year of life, and this is by far my favorite! In fact, my husband is even willing to read this one. Some of the others are more technical, but this one gets right to the point and makes it enjoyable, not taxing, to read. New parents should definatley get this book.

Suggestions for the same issues my friends have mentioned.

We got this book after reading a review about it in a magazine and it's probably the easiest read of all the parenting books we've tackled so far. Each of the 100 Things are separated into one or two pages of suggestions about how to deal with these issues, so it's easy to pick up for five minutes here and there to read. The most amazing part to us was that all of the 100 Things were things we had heard our friends struggle with during their children's first year. So even though many of these Things weren't new revelations to us, the suggestions the authors provide at least give some guidance about how to avoid, or correct, these issues. We haven't tested out most of these suggestions, so we can't comment on how well they will work, but it's been comforting to at least have some guidance. The authors do have a distinct parenting style that I might imagine some people may not agree with, but we liked most of what they had to say. They spend a fair amount of time talking about sleep issues, and do not advocate the family bed technique, so if you plan to do this, you might not find their advice quite as helpful.

A Wonderful Gift for New Parents

As a mother of a 2 year old who read all the "latest" baby books on the market, I put this one at the top of my list. I feel it consolidates all of the great information you read from the "must have" books into one comprehensive and easy to read book. Looking back, the most important tools I learned during those first 12 months were good sleep habits, a schedule for your baby, and how to make the most of their developmental stages. And the authors of this book incorporate each of these tools and help make it easier for you and your baby adapt to these stages. I've already given several away as gifts, knowing that this book will be a "lifesaver" for many parents of newborns.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!

It is easy to read and contains a lot of really useful information. As a new Dad, I especially liked that it was conversational and not preachy. The topics range from a diaper rash treatment that actually worked for my baby to introducing solid foods. The back of the book contains an appendix with sample schedules for feeding, an awesome babysitter guide that can be easily adapted and some great drawings of sign language signs that you can teach your baby. I highly recommend this book for any parent. This book has made me and my wife's life easier!

Great book for a new mother like me!

I just received this book as a baby shower present and it is really good. 100 Things I Wish I Knew in My Baby's First Year covers a lot of information. Just their advice on baby quilts and bumpers pays for this book many times over. The book's advice is easy to understand and I was impressed that a pediatrician that teaches at Harvard Medical School so strongly endorses this book. The book doesn't cover every possible medical condition like What to Expect the First Year, but this book is a great book to buy in addition to the thick baby guides like What to Expect. 100 Things I Wish I Knew in My Baby's First Year is enjoyable to read and packs a lot of good information into a book that can be read in a couple of days. The index is also pretty thorough and I've learned some important things that I haven't read in any other baby books.
