I've been riding a bicycle since 1965, but I didn't become a cyclist until 1988. As a cyclist, I have covered tens of thousands of miles over the years. Beginning in 1990 after moving to Texas from southern California, I have participated in many of the pay ride events in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with one of them being an annual trip for all but three of those years since 1990. The event known to any area cyclist is Hotter-n-Hell and it is quite possibly the most attended non-professional event in the country. Hotter-n-Hell is held each year in Wichita Falls, Texas, during what can be the hottest, most cruel part of the Texas summer.I have titled my book, "100 Degrees of Separation" because of what happens over the 100 miles of wide open Texas terrain and the unrelenting heat that builds to temperatures well above 100 degrees on the open road. Distance and heat separates those who can from those who can't in their attempt to handle the challenges of this fantastic ride. Texas has more than 140 bicycle clubs and these clubs have almost one-million members. Members and non-members will flock to Wichita Falls, Texas, where the city will host over 10,000 registered riders each year for Hotter-n-Hell and these numbers represent a large population of cyclists of all skill levels and who may find a book like this of interest. The reasons could be for those just starting the pay ride circuit and looking for opinions or someone looking for a guide on how to ride Hotter-n-Hell without suffering the fate that others like me have suffered. With some of my tips, a proper game plan and training you can enjoy the greatest pay in the state of Texas and perhaps the entire country.
