The story revolves around an extreme ethical dilemma: what consequences arise when the highest pursuit of art converges with absolute personal power?
The short story The Torrential Rain creates a symbolic "ethical laboratory," placing characters in a storm-swept valley. Their conversations about external fears reflect the hidden traumas within, while Li Shi's near-mad actions-removing the tombstone of the young female intellectual Xin Mei from the cemetery-push the story's emotional intensity to the height of romantic melancholy.
The Brimless Soft Hat is a finely crafted modern fable, using precise symbolism and restrained irony to showcase Qiaosheng Shen's narrative skill of "revealing the vast through the small."
