تدور القصّة في إحدى القرى الفرنسيّة الصغيرة، حيث يرفض رئيس بلديّتها مشروعًا لإنشاء بلدةٍ تكنولوجيّةٍ على غرار السيليكون فالي. يحاول توماس - بطل الرواية، المدفوع بحبّه للطبيعة وبحنينٍ قويٍّ إلى الماضي والجمال، القيام بكلّ شيءٍ لمنع المشروع. وقد خطّط جيدًا لما وصفه يوم الحساب حضّر غالونات البنزين وحُزَم القشّ التي سيُشعل بها البيوت الخشبيّة والآليّات، موّه فَعلتَه بدقّة، وقاد سيّارته في الثلج لارتكاب حريقٍ ستستفيق القريةُ عليه، ليباشَر تحقيقٌ مع توماس... رواية تطرح، بمتعةٍ وسخرية، القضايا التي تؤرّق عصرنا الحداثة المتوحّشة التي تقضي على كلّ ما هو جميلٌ وبسيطٌ وأصيل، وتنتهك خصوصيّة الفرد، الوعي البيئيّ والحفاظ على الطبيعة، ومعالجة القضايا بين الحلّ السلميّ والعنفيّ... The novella takes place in a small French village, where the mayor rejects a project to build a tech town modeled after Silicon Valley. Driven by his love of nature and a strong nostalgia for the past and beauty, the protagonist Thomas tries everything to stop the project. He meticulously plans what he calls "Judgment Day" he stocks up on gallons of gasoline and bundles of straw, disguises himself carefully, drives through the snow to burn down the wooden houses and machinery. A local investigation awakens the village, and the story begins to unfold... The novella, with humor and irony, addresses the anxieties of our age: savage modernity that destroys everything beautiful and simple, environmental awareness, preserving nature, and the tension between peaceful and violent resistance.
