Based on the latest field research, this book explores county-level disparities across eastern, central, and western China in terms of economy, governance, land systems, and collective economy. 以最新的田野调查，从经济、治理、土地制度、集体经济等阐述东中西部县域的具体差异 Since the beginning of the 21st century, the disparities among counties in eastern, central, and western China have become increasingly pronounced. Can the development experiences of eastern counties be replicated in central and western counties? What are the most fundamental differences among counties in these three regions? Are the key factors driving these differences market-based, institutional, or social in nature? What is the institutional logic behind fiscal transfer payments? Drawing on rigorous field research and macro-level data published by the state, this book takes the county as the unit of analysis in seeking to answer these questions. This book is built upon more than twenty years of field research conducted by a team led by Professor He Xuefeng across China's vast territories.
