As players of Monster Hunter and Dungeons & Dragons know, the slime is not exactly the king of the fantasy monsters. So when 37-year-old Tokyo salaryman Mikami is abruptly stabbed to death and wakes up in a world of dragons and magic, he's a little disappointed, but not exactly surprised, to find he's not a knight or a wizard. No, Mikami has become a blind, boneless slime monster, and there are chances for even a slime to become a hero!

To be a slime or to not be a slime, that is the question.

4.5* stars.
Summary:
A classic isekai fantasy with detailed art, really cool non-human characters (at first), a laid-back story with the promise of much more intrigue to come, and a very interesting second take on events by an egotistical dragon... What's not to love?!
Full review:
I read the majority of this volume back when Crunchyroll still had manga to read for free. I may be biased, (I totally am,) but I definitely prefer reading the physical copy, if nothing else for the bonus written story at the end of Veldora's Slime Observation Journal. He is a very interesting dragon. Also very self-centered, but that just makes him a bit funnier in this context.
No, I won't be saying in what context, for you have to read this volume to know. Hehehe.
Even with the accidental stabbing that got Satoru/Rimuru reincarnated and some other battles, the entire volume was very cozy and had a relaxed feeling. There were moments that made things feel a little darker or urgent under the surface, but the chill vibe never left, much like Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Vol. 1 There wasn't many humans of note until the latter half of the volume, which I personally prefer. I liked seeing monsters in their natural state and habitat, and not be either attacking or being defeated, just living their lives.
It's nice learning about the world through Rimuru's eyes while he learns about it himself, similar to Kumoko in So I'm a Spider, So What? Manga, Vol. 1. Granted I haven't read many isekai. I feel the world building is still done well. The art is really nice, and I like how simple yet eye catching Rimuru's slime body is. Everything is very detailed, especially the creatures. The story is starting off rather slow, but there's already been hints here and there of much bigger things happening in the background. I am excited to see where this goes!
