This novel takes place in an Egypt that is not as we know it now, and during a difficult and ambiguous period of which we have received very little, where there is a conflict between the priests of Amun and the army of a kingdom that descends into chaos after the death of its king. While we continue with Tahouti his search for the murderer of his king in an exciting suspense plot, we get to know his owner, Horhotep, the painter, the priestess Nakh Ti and the secrets she hides, and the eccentric Ka Thief and his struggle with the gods; they are different human beings brought together by fate, despite their different visions, principles, and outlook on life, within a social dramatic framework, and philosophical visions about life and death, gods and humans, good and evil, and the myths of the ancients.
