Family Values and Precepts of Prominent Clans in Jiaxing/嘉兴名门望族家风家训 [Chinese]

Jiaxing has long been a cradle of talent and a hub of cultural heritage. Throughout its history, one prominent clan after another has risen to distinction in the region - including the Shen and Zhu families of Jiaxing; the Qian and Gu families of Haiyan; the Jiang, Xu, and Zha families of Haining; the Yuan and Chen families of Jiashan; the Zhang and Wu families of Tongxiang; and the Lu family of Pinghu - all of whom exercised considerable local influence. In ancient China, great importance was placed on the transmission of family values and traditions, and the Jiaxing area is home to a wealth of important family precepts that have been passed down through generations. Notable examples include Yuan Huang's Liaofan's Four Lessons and Instructions for My Son, Zhang L xiang's Words of Admonition for My Son, Chen Longzheng's Household Records, L Liuliang's Family Precepts of Master Wancun, Lu Longqi's Maxims for Governing Jiaxing, and Xu Rulin's House Rules of the Dexing Hall. These works are best understood within the context of their authors' family lineages and legacies. Grounded in historical sources, this book delves deeply into the genealogical origins and prominent figures of Jiaxing's distinguished clans, while also selecting and commenting on the family values and precepts from these lineages that remain relevant to modern society, modern families, and modern individuals. In so doing, it fulfills the dual purpose of "preserving history and cultivating character," while also enhancing the content's appeal and readability - ensuring that these traditions are not only preserved for posterity but also meaningfully engaged with and passed on.
