A chilling domestic story of terror for fans of Black Mirror and The Amityville Horror. When a young family moves into an unfinished development community, cracks begin to emerge in both their new residence and their lives, as a mysterious online DIY instructor delivers dark subliminal suggestions about how to handle any problem around the house. The trials of home improvement, destructive insecurities, and haunted house horror all collide in this thrilling story perfect for fans of Nick Cutter's bestsellers The Troop and The Deep.
Ok, normally a lot of "adult" material, and sometimes gore, bothers me but in this case it is just so well-done and effective. My interpretation (that I think is a little more than just interpretation if you've read the author's note) is that a core point of this story is toxic masculinity. Taking out those uncomfortable elements would do the story a great disservice because they're part of the point! There's elements that even can be a bit humorous in a dark kinda gross way via the points they're making. For instance there's a home-oerotic scene that I had to tell my partner about because I knew they'd find it hilarious as well. Admittedly I had read a library ebook and the copy I bought here (was in great condition) went to a friend I'm still waiting to hear back from on it. Might not have been his cup of tea and it might not be a lot of people's cup of tea but I was surprised by how much I loved it. For me if an author can write something I normally don't like in a way that I greatly enjoy, they're a really skilled writer.
Nick Cutter nails it again!

What a read! Anamazing story centered around a haunted house that turns out much more sinister than it leads on! The character development and decline of their true selves is top notch. Would highly recommend if you like Cutter's work.
If you like foul language this book is for you

I am highly disappointed in this book. I cannot believe Nick Cutter would participate in the horrible language used throughout this book, none of his other books were anywhere near this vulgar. I would never read a book by Sullivan due to this being the first time I’ve experienced his writing. Don’t waste your money.
