Nature's Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation That Starts in Your Yard

Douglas W. Tallamy's first book, Bringing Nature Home, awakened thousands of individuals to an urgent situation: wildlife populations are in decline because the native plants they depend on are fast disappearing. His solution? Plant more natives. In this new book, Tallamy takes the next step and outlines his vision for a grassroots approach to conservation. Nature's Best Hope shows how homeowners everywhere can turn their yards into conservation corridors that provide wildlife habitats. Because this approach relies on the initiatives of private individuals, it is immune from the whims of government policy. Even more important, it's practical, effective, and easy--you will walk away with specific suggestions you can incorporate into your own yard. If you're concerned about doing something good for the environment, Nature's Best Hope is the blueprint you need. By acting now, you can help preserve our precious wildlife--and the planet--for future generations.

My favorite non-fiction book by far

This book really changed the trajectory of my life and that isn't an exaggeration. I picked this book up initially from the library just based on the cover and I was instantly hooked. I have made so many drastic changes to my yard and created community gardens as well as returned to school to pursue a degree in conservation biology. Doug writes in such an accessible way and the whole approach feels very easy with really drives you to want to make changes big and small. I can't recommend this one enough.

The best nature book out there

This book is my favorite of 2025. I borrowed it from the library and love it so much I want to purchase a copy for myself to reread and reference over and over again. This book could save the earth!
