Hard-hitting and very believable

This is one of my favorite LDS novels. The reason why is that the characters are human (not superhumans) and behave very believably, with believable but heart-wrenching consequences. Both Janet and Tally have outstanding qualities as well as human frailties. Many novels portray whirlwind romances that work out beautifully with minimal effort, but this is not the case here. And I think that's an important issue to explore in LDS fiction--just because two people are in love and have good intentions does not mean that a marriage between them will work out smoothly. The sweet violins-in-the-background romance between Janet and Tally disintegrates pretty quickly because of selfishness and imperfections in both of them, but the disintegration is fueled more rapidly by Janet's addiction to prescription drugs and self-centered behavior. The question, then, is: Can Janet and Tally move beyond their troubled past and learn through forgiveness and hard work to build a life together? Is it even possible? The result is a great story that will stick with me for a long, long time.

Great book--a thought provoking and compelling read.

"Tempest Tossed" is an eye-opening book that sparkles with down-to-earth honesty and a satisfying conclusion. Josi Kilpack writes with touching insight and the reader is carried along at speed. An engrossing story that held my interest right to the end.

A Powerful and Moving story!

Tempest Tossed is one of the most touching and powerful stories I have ever read. Josi Kilpack did her homework and realistically recreates the life of a woman addicted to prescription drugs. Following her story, it is easy to see how she got lured down that path, and the reader can feel for her and root for her as she tries to put her life back together again. This is another wonderful story from a wonderful author.
