Not for all readers, but unlike anything I've read! For his debut work, the author seems like he's been doing this a long time.
He draws on some old Icelandic lore, which is so foreign as to feel brand new. The author is bilingual in Icelandic and English, and translated his own original work into English. He left a lot of words (including some he created) in Icelandic - which was necessary as it maintained the desired aura of strange and foreign.
There are some seriously dark moments in this book - ones that were a bit hard to read as I'm a bit squeamish.
This book blends magic and steampunk and dystopia and hallucinogens and...try it out!
