Book Overview

Pharmacology is now firmly established as a world wide best-selling and highly acclaimed textbook for medical and science students. Its successful approach emphasies the mechanisms by which drugs act and relates these to the overall pharmacological effects and clinical uses. It sets out for the reader a clear route from a molecular understanding of receptors and drug actions, to the therapeutic uses of the most important groups of drugs. For the Fifth Edition the text has been completely updated, incorporating significant new information published in the last few years, while obsolete material has been removed. New agents are fully discussed as well as extensions of basic knowledge which presage further drug development. Book jacket.

Great for Pharmacology students

It is a great pharmacology textbook for introductory students. It goes in-depth enough for you to understand the mechanisms behind pharmacological processes. Most likely this review isn't necessary as this will be required for whatever class you are taking but if you are independently thinking about a pharmacology textbook, I would recommend this one. It comes with online material for further instruction as well.

Excellent resource when your teacher is insane.

This book makes everything so much more clear and uses British English which is clearly the only proper way to go.

A very good title.

This book is an excellent introduction to pharmacolgy. The redaction is clear, and the format of the book makes easy learn all the basic concepts of the pharmacology. It is a very good option to learn pharmacology.

The best entry-level pharmacology textbook

Its strange that such an exciting subject as pharmacology is served by so many badly organised, boringly written and outdated textbooks. Rang + Dale is a refreshing antidote to this strange state of affairs. The first 8 chapters form a superb introduction to the subject - particularly because the authors don't skimp on the physiological details and concentrate on principles rather than endless catalogues of obscure drugs. This is a British textbook and thus uses British nomenclature, but the American equivalents are pointed out along the way, so American readers shouldn't be put off. The more advanced student will of course outgrow the material in this book, but I would strongly recommend this textbook for science undergrads, medical students, and anyone looking for a book to provide a solid foundation to their study of pharmacology.
