A Enchanting Story About Salvation and Another Chance

Anna's beloved husband Paul, whom she has loved her whole life, first as a best friend, then a lover, left the family estate with his new wife and fled to the Island of Ceylon to get away from his vicious and hateful brother, Lord Ridley. There they purchased a run-down tea plantation and worked hard to restore it, welcoming a baby girl along the way. Her husband's health had never been good, and the hot, moist climate eventually killed him. Lord Ridley inherited the plantation as his brother's heir and orders her home. When she and her 5-year-old daughter return, it's not long before her brother-in-law informs her that he is willing to let her and her daughter stay, at a price. She must become his mistress. She takes avoidance measures every night, sleeping with her daughter, roaming and hiding in other rooms to try to sleep. One night when she is hiding in an alcove of his office, a figure dressed all in black breaks in, removes a picture on the wall, opens a safe and removes bags of jewelry. She is frozen-fearing he will turn at any moment, when she sees something sparkle in a flash of green light. A legendary set of emeralds, said to be lost for many years are hidden there. Her muffled sounds attract his attention and he grabs at her and they play a game of cat and mouse until he has her trapped. She grabs a hidden pistol from a drawer behind her as he closes in, shoots, and all chaos breaks loose. He grabs her, dragging her away with him until she manages to incapacitate him with a heavy candlestick, then servants finally rush in and apprehend him as Lord Ridley starts down the stairs. She dashes back into the office to try to hide the emeralds before Lord Ridley finds them. Suddenly, she realizes that they could mean freedom for her and her daughter and hastily secures them a future. During the night, the stranger somehow escapes and disappears. She and her daughter do as well, thinking that they will think the the thief took the jewels. After reuniting with a streetwise friend from her past, they pawn a bracelet and set sail for Ceylon. Before leaving, she was told the stranger was an illegitimate brother of Lord Ridley and he will see him hanged. One day, the "stranger" who is actually her brother in law Julian shows up because he has been accused of stealing the jewels and escaped a death sentence and he wants them back. Danger is all around her and not where it seems as other dark threats arise, far beyond the obvious. Julian, who has a secret about his origins, starts to take over the running of the plantation and she fights her emotions and his control. Lord Ridley has discovered who has the jewels, and he and other mysterious forces are closing in. I really like the resourcefulness Anna displayed in turning a hopeless situation into one to better her and her daughter's lives. She really values her honor and wants her daughter to have a life she can live proudly. This book is unusual in it's setting and the many strange threats that she faces as her enemies gather. Julian wants the jewels, but wants her more. She fights her growing feelings while unaware of a looming threat that may end them all. The unusual setting of this book added to the air of mystery and danger while providing a fascinating glimpse into the life of a tea planter. The end is full of unexpected turns, but readers should be satisfied with the resolution.

THE GREATEST LOVE STORY I'VE EVER READ!!

This was my second book by Karen Robards (the first being Paradise County) and I can already say, it will be my favorite! A friend recommended this to me and she was absolutely right in doing so! The story of Anna and Julian left me completely dazzled. It usually takes me a few weeks to read a novel of this size, solely due to time issues; but I finished this one in exactly 3 days!! I could not bring myself to put it down and I thought about it way too much when I wasn't reading it! The story behind the love story was great, the settings ideal, and the secondary characters very interesting, and the "love" scenes will make you shudder!! HOT!! If you like romances, or even if you thought you had outgrew them (like I did), this is a MUST READ! I promise, you will NOT be disappointed!

EMERALD EYES AND JEWELS

Reading the "free" exerpt of GREEN EYES made me buy it. Ann Travern, recently widowed, is at the mercy of her deceased husband's older brother, Graham. And Graham has made it expressly clear that Ann will either become his mistress or both she and her small daughter, Chelsea, will be put out in the streets.As a vicar's daughter, Ann prays fervrently for a solution. Almost as a direct answer to her prayer, Julian enters both her home and her life, seeking to prove his lineage and title. Julian steals precious jewels and is arrested, while it is Ann who, by a series of coincidences, actually makes away with the jewels, gaining an answer to her prayer and obtaining a financial means to leave Graham's household.Now Ann takes her GREEN EYES back to Ceylon to start tea farming, as she and her husband had planned. The problem that arises is that both Julian and Graham want her and the jewels back ... and they'll travel halfway around the world to get them.This book has a wonderfully exciting conclusion, where native superstition and practices cause an unforeseeable, dangerous distraction.This story is believable, extremely romantic and adventurous.

THE MOST PROVACATIVE, INTENSE ROMANCE NOVEL I HAVE EVER READ

OKAY, I WILL TELL YOU THE TRUTH PEOPLE, THIS IS MY VERY FIRST ROMANCE NOVEL. I'M REALLY NOT INTO ALL THAT LOVEY, MUSHY STUFF. BUT LET ME TELL YOU ALL, I GOT SO ENTRANCED IN THIS BOOK AS SOON AS I STARTED READING IT. IT STARTED GIVING ME CHILLS ALL OVER MY BODY. I WILL ADMIT, THE BOOK DOES HAVE A SEXUAL THEME, SO I REALLY WOULDN'T ADVISE KIDS TO READ THIS, BUT BOY OH BOY, IS THIS ONE HELL OF A BOOK. I GOT SO CAUGHT UP IN THE MAIN CHARACTERS. ANNA IS A BEAUTIFUL, STRONG WITHSTANDING YOUNG LADY WHO HAS BOTH PRIDE AND PASSION IN HER HEART. JULIAN, THE HANDSOME-HOT MALE CHARACTER IS SIMPLY THAT:HOTTTT! HE IS A DETERMINED, MASCULINE GO-GETTER WITH A MIND OF STONE BUT WITH A HEART OF SILK. I LOVE THEM BOTH. NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL A FANTASTIC ROMANCE NOVEL. GREEN EYES WILL SURELY BE STORED IN MY BOOKSHELF FOR YEARS TO COME!

A SUPERB ROMANTIC CLASSIC. 10 STARS!

THIS BOOK CAUGHT MY ATTENTION FROM THE FIRST TIME I SAW IT IN THE BOOKSHELF. BY THE TIME I HAD READ INTO THE FIRST THREE PARAGRAPHS OF THE NOVEL, I WAS COMPLETELY ENGROSSED IN THE STORY. AND I HAVEN'T EVEN FINISHED READING THE BOOK YET! I LOVE IT. I LOVE THE SETTING, THE PLOT, AND SEQUENCE OF EVENTS, I LOVE EVERYTHING. I ESPECIALLY LOVE THE TWO MAIN CHARACTERS: ANNA AND JULIAN. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET TO THE ENDING OF THE BOOK. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING SOME OF MS. ROBARDS NOVELS IN THE FUTURE. SHE IS AN EXCELLENT ROMANCE NOVELIST.

I loved this book.... i bemoan the fact that Karen Robards seem to have move away from sprawling historials to modern romance/suspense...although i enjoy those books as well. The setting was different with Srinagar and a tea plantation . The romance was fanatastic and they do feel for julian who feels he has to compete with Ana's deceased husband Paul, whioo happens to be his half brother! the4 ending was spooky and different but overall the book was a night of reading pleasure !
