A cruel king, his flesh made of stone, tyrannizes the enchanted Firefly Island. No sword or arrow can harm him. Aeolia, a servant girl, can magically share feelings and senses, even pain. Only she, by... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Daniel Arenson writes a fantastic tale of horror, friendship, love, and triumph intertwined in the lives of the four fire children struggling with the burden of their destiny. The unpredictable twists and turns of Firefly Island left me eagerly turning the page to learn the fate of characters I came to adore. Most admirable, is the way the author moves through feelings of utter desolation to exuberant triumph; highlighting both the injurious and encouraging aspects of human nature. I would recommend this book to fantasy and non-fantasy readers alike. Oriana Reynaud
Imaginary world that comes to vivid life!

Reviewed by Kelley Anderson for Reader Views (5/07) The firechildren of the five nations of an enchanted island are coming together in battle. The winner will either free the nations or enslave its inhabitants. Aeolia, the servant girl, flees her hideous master out of fear, only to find more strength than she knew possible. Only she has the ability to hurt the stone king by linking herself to him and then sending the pain of death through them both. It is harder to get at the king than it seems, for King Sinther hides his stony countenance in a deep underground chamber. He hides but sends his son, Lale and best friend, Joren to terrify and slaughter thousands in a quest to destroy the Esiren firechild. Roen Painter, desperate to save his beloved father, conspires to kidnap the duke only to discover a secret that could completely change his life. He fights for the common people of the street, helping Aeolia to become the leader she is destined to be. Taya, a forestfellow friend of Aeolia's, leaves on a quest to become a warrior and finds another part of her self. She must come to terms with her other half or be banished from her homeland and family forever. Daniel Arenson has an amazing gift of bringing his characters off the pages. His careful detailing of the differences between the five nations was simple and concise. As I read the book, I had a clear picture of each of the characters and loved the way each character tied to another. At the beginning of the book, there were several characters with several stories and their storylines intertwined beautifully to come to a final conclusion together. I think this book is for anyone who likes a good story. The story is made up of part battle, journey, romance and family and just the right balance of each. I would highly recommend the book to anyone. This is the most excited I have ever been about a science fiction/fantasy book. I loved the characters, loved the events, and would love to see a sequel to "Firefly Island."
A fascinating and enthralling story

Firefly Island Daniel Arenson Five Star, August 2007, $25.95, 347 pp. ISBN: 9781594146015 In Stonefort, King Sinther lives underground where he is using his magic to turn his skin to stone so knives and arrows can't harm him. A decade passes and she is still a slave when Prince Lale of Stonefort comes to her because she is the Firechild who can not only link minds with someone but also link senses. Sinther fears her which is why his son wants her dead because she is the only one who can kill his father. She escapes and meets Talin, who has a killing grudge against Lale but agrees to accompany her. She escapes to the Forestfolk where they meet Taya also a Firefly but can change into any shape she wishes. Aeolia and Talin escape and after much travel and adventuring learn the truth about her; she must fulfill her role if there is to be peace to the island and its fire kingdoms. Readers who like a sword and sorcery fantasy will find FIREFLY ISLAND a fascinating and enthralling story. Several characters' stories run concurrently and the audience will understand what motivates all of them and yet it is easy to follow. Aeolia is the catalyst who makes thinks happen and others react to her and her power. Compared to her Talin is a gentle soul, who loves his `Lia' and follows her wherever she must go. A Must Read!

Torn from the only family she had ever known, six year old Aeolia had no idea the horrors her future beheld. Promising to keep her special skill secret were the last words she said to her brother Joren before the Ogre took her away; and made her his slave. Aeolia knew that Joren would come for her when he became of age and so she idled her time as the years passed. Ten years later she knew Joren would be coming for her. The Ogre's daughter confessed to seeing Joren in the town; but could Aeolia believe the maddened Ogress? Talin a Forrestfellow just happened to be in the right place at the right time, or else Lale would have killed Aeolia for her secret skill that could cause a major rift in his life. Talin had his own issues with Lale, so there was no reserve in wanting to kill the man that murdered his entire family. He would not kill the Esiren Firechild, she was the one who could bring hope back to their world. During Aeolia's search for Joren and her escape from Lale, she fell madly in love with Talin. He seemed to be the man of her dreams. They would fight side by side for the rest of their lives, so they were wed with the assumption of having a happy ending. Could Joren be so heartless as to kill his own flesh and blood sister? Was she really blood to Joren or had her entire up bringing been told with a small piece missing that could bring on the demise of The Stone King Sinther? Truly Aeolia is faced with many dangers, death, betrayal and horror. She holds the key that will kill the evil Stone King; hopefully she will live long enough to use her key to unlock the freedom of Heland. Mr. Arenson's historical Sci-Fi story is compelling. I did not want this story or romance, war, and friendship to end. There is a little something for every reader in Firefly Island. I kept hoping for the best while reading this story and I can assure you I was not disappointed one bit by the story telling Mr. Arenson delivers. I award 5 hearts to Daniel Arenson's story Firefly Island.
