Holy Land Whose Land?

Dorothy Drummond has done a great job of presenting four thousand years of history in the Holy Land and demonstrating it's lasting impact on our modern world. But, this work is much more than just a history book: the role of geography, religion, and politics is equally well represented in explaining the past and present in the Holy Land. The author has also included a number of her travel experiences in the Holy Land that add a personal touch to the book. This well-researched book is very educational, but you don't have to be a student or a scholar to get a lot out of it. Numerous maps and a glossary help the reader to connect people, places, and events. The author's completely unbiased treatment of the region's religions and cultures allows the reader to form their own views and perspectives of the region's history and current events.Holy Land Whose Land? is a very interesting book and I highly recommend it.

Encapsulated History.

At Last,An ENCAPSULATED HISTORY of Palestine that is superb for Schools and Universities. The Writer's Personal Travels in the area,Lend a Personal Touch. Its Like being there Yourself!!! Unlike other Books on the Many Secular and Intercine Wars in this area. The Writer is careful not to take sides in this Perennial Argument.Great Reading.Entered on behalf of Gwendoline Robertson.St Clair (NSW) Australia.

Whose Land Indeed

The book is extremely easy to read with excellent "personal"notes by the author interspersed throughout the text. When Istarted reading, I thought that there was a bias towards oneside as the true owners of the land, but as I traversed thoughoutthe book, it was obvious that each new topic was presented witha new insight for the ownership claim. In the end, I was leftwith feeling that it is impossible to draw any single conclusionas to which side, if any, has 100% claim. The historical, religious, geographical, & social-economic factsrelated show that nothing is constant throughout time to remainas the only heritage for which a region is to be remembered. If the author's aim was to present facts for consideration ofthis problem, but not draw any single conclusion, then I believeshe accomplished her goal. There may not be a solution!

A Study-group Must

Holy Land Whose Land? Modern Dilemma Ancient Roots is the perfect reference for a study-discussion group wishing to research the background of today's continuing horror headlines coming out of the Middle east. D.Drummond gives a detailed view of the present situation, then takes the reader through the history of this land called home by three monotheistic religions, finally dealing with possible approaches to peace. A detailed glossary, maps, and photographs--as well as firsthand observations are a welcome addition to this very readable, balanced study. With so many folks convinced that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict directly affects the war on terrorism, D.Drummond's book definitely enlightens us.

An issues oriented examination

Holy Land, Whose Land? Modern Dilemma, Ancient Roots by Dorothy Drummond (former president of the National Council for Geographic Education) is a solid, carefully researched, deftly written, issues oriented examination of the lands of Jerusalem and Israel, the bloody strife that rends them today, and the lengthy, tangled, troubled history of their past. Drummond offers both a critical analysis of current tensions as well as introspective study of history since Biblical times that is unusually accessible to the non-specialist general reader. Holy Land, Whose Land? is a "must-read" for anyone who seeks to better understand the tragedy of contemporary international events taking place in the Mideast today.
