Wow

This is the story of a young white girl, Alys, that rescues a young indian boy and his sister by means of some secret caves under her house. In return the young boy, Moon Wolf, wows to make her his wife when they are old enough if only she'll come with him to his tribe. She declines and years later, after having spent time back east learning how to be a lady, she returns to her mum at Fort Benton, only to learn that a rogue indian called Wolf Shadow harasses the bulltrains containing goods destined for his people. One day she spots blood on the ground after such an attack and follows it....right back to the secret caves of her childhood. She finds Wolf Shadow injured and heavily bleeding but takes on the task of nursing him back to health. During this time she comes to realize that Wolf Shadow and the young boy Moon Wolf with whom she was severely smitten as a young girl, is one and the same person. They rediscover the bond between them and mutual friendship, respect and in the end love blossoms even though Wolf Shadow has woved not to take a wife for as long as he is needed to interfere with the illegal trade of whiskey to his people. I brought this book with me on holiday and it took me only two late in the evening sittings to finish it - I just couldn't put it down. Once more Karen Kay tops herself and has delievered a true keeper.

A good book but it could have been better...

This is a good story, but it could have been better...Mind you, I enjoyed reading all of Karen Kay's books..she is a great writer.. I am just waiting for her next one...her "Proud Wolf's woman", and "White Eagle's touch" are still my favourite among her books...

Moonwolf's love for Aly's

This is the first book that I have read by Karen Kay, I enjoyed the book very much. Moonwolf's love for Aly's and to teach her the warrior's way. I really enjoyed it.

Wolf Shadow's Promise

I have never wanted to read historical romance novels. (All the flowery words are too much!) This book was not like that. I am of indian heritage and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was a book I did not want to put down. I am awaiting her next book in the series of "The Legendary Warriors." I would recommend this book to anyone that likes romance as well as adventure. I am now hooked on Karen Kay.

Despite the hero, this is a very good read

In 1857 at Fort Benton in the Northwest Territory, an incident occurs at the local school between the white teacher and an Indian student. The child's brother Moon Wolf intercedes, followed by some assistance from another student, white girl Alys Clayton. Moon Wolf vows to Alys that he will take her as his wife when she grows up.In 1872, Alys returns to Fort Benton after spending years at school in the east. She still dreams of Moon Wolf who stole her heart fifteen years ago. Though he too remembers Alys, he is pledged to stop the whiskey traffic that is destroying his people. Now known as Wolf Shadow, he leads raids on what he considers contraband. When he is hurt, Alys nurses him back to health, which gives them the time for their puppy love to evolve into an adult love. Still, he feels she must stick to her own kind even when she insists on joining his forays to prove they belong together.WOLF SHADOW'S PROMISE is an exciting Native American romance that highlight the plight of the Indians in the latter half of the nineteenth century in Montana. The lead characters are a warm duo although the hero's schizoid tendencies between love and denial seems more appropriate for Two Face than for this intrepid protagonist. Though the author also relies on some doubtful devices to deploy her plot, Karen Kay writes with such strong passion that it hooks her readers and turns WOLF SHADOW'S PROMISE into a powerful Americana tale.Harriet Klausner
