The perfect guide to lifecare communities

This is not only a good book on the subject; it may be the only comprehensive book of its type. Complete and informative. Written by someone who carefully did the research for you. Highly recommended.

A must read for retirees

The first reviewer is absolutely correct. My husband and I both wish our parents had moved to a CCRC when they were able to make new friendships and enjoy life. They wanted to stay in their homes for the rest of their lives. The reality was that as they became progressively frailer it was necessary to move, then move and move again. With each move they lost contact with their peers who were also moving, and moving again as their care needs were addressed. Now it is our turn to get real and make plans.

I loved this book

This is the best book I have ever seen on the subject of continuing-care retirement communities. It is informative and chock full of practical advice, yet warm and personal at the same time. Bernice Hunt tells the story of her and her husband's journey toward a happy and secure retirement, touching on every aspect - both practical and psychological - involved in this life-changing, decision-making process. Hunt examines the pros and cons of many aspects of CCRCs and responds to the concerns and worries that we all harbor at this crucial stage in our lives. She has thought of everything: tiny details and suggestions that we might easily overlook; what to think about; what to look for; what questions to ask; how to identify and weigh our options. Her style is straightforward and supportive; her honest, friendly manner makes us feel less alone as we venture forth into unfamiliar (and scary) territory. This practical guide is not a sales pitch for CCRCs. Hunt points out the negatives as well as the positives and teaches us how to weigh one against the other. A helpful appendix contains valuable checklists, suggested directives to heirs, and a list of other resources.
