When the Sun Goes Down...

Juliana Thompsen grew up associating the name Cole with the word enemy. However, no matter how much that thought had been embedded in her mind, she can't seem to fight her attraction to the gorgeous, Tristan Cole. From afar, Tristan silently yearned. His attraction to Juliana growing more fierce with each passing day. Yet, it was a desire that he knew better than to ever voice. After all, she was a Thompsen, and any Cole in his right mind knew better than to even spare a passing glance in their direction. But one summer evening, Tristan and Julianna are given a bitter sweet glimpse of passion. It had been nothing more than a few stolen kisses, but it left them each burning for something more. Something they both knew they could never ever have. Fast forward a few years... As the legend went, Julianna's great ancestor, Emelie and Tristan's ancestor, Terrence had been madly in love. He was then forced into marrying another woman. Rather than stay behind as nothing more than his mistress, Emelie flees, taking with her a painting that Terrence had made of her. Terrence wants it back. Emelie doesn't want to part with it. But before the matter is settled, the painting is stolen and so began the feud between the two families. And so now, at the request of her aunt, Juliana finds herself in Japan in search of an elusive painting of Emelie. Halfway around the world, the last person she had ever expected to see was Tristan. But there he was, and apparently on the same mission as she. However, although her mind should be set on retrieving the painting, Juliana can't help the desire she feels towards him. Emotions she had tried desperately to suppress since that night of forbidden passion they had so long ago. Tristan can barely believe Juliana is in Japan, and looking more beautiful than he remembered. He had never forgotten that night they shared, every woman that came into his life since had paled in comparison to what he felt for Juliana. But it was a hunger that would never be satisfied. At least not as long as their families had any say in the matter. Hearing the painting had been delayed in arriving, Tristan and Juliana know it's going to be days before they could return home. They are forced to wait, the outcome of who would inevitably get the painting--unknown. But, suddenly none of that seemed to matter. Tristan and Juliana realize that while in Japan, they far enough away from their family's judgement that they could finally finish what they had started all those years before. The gnawing desire for one another they are both equally desperate to fulfill. But when these two star-crossed lovers finally give in to temptation, neither one is fully prepared to handle the onslaught of emotions that follows. And it is then that they both realize a few days in a far away land would simply never be enough. I really liked this story. I'll admit I'm not an avid contemporary reader, but if the author does it right, I can quickly get sucked
