Thorougly Enjoyable Book!

I found out all sorts of little-known facts about Audrey Hepburn. I also got more of a sense of who she was as a person, and a glimpse over her life overall. Not only was she one of the most beautiful people ever, but she's an inspiration to me by what she overcame and did in her life, especially at the beginning and the end. This isn't quite a biography, but you will find out a lot about her!

Pamela Keogh has done it again ! With her crisp writing style and witty turn of phrase, she takes the reader on a journey into the life of Audrey Hepburn in a way that is unique and charming. This book is as timely as it is informative and will be enjoyed by readers of all ages. For the first time.....I felt as though I had been a visitor in the life of this unique and unusual icon.....while at the same time viewing her in a way that was completely human. I intend to give this to everyone for Christmas !

Unique Look At a Beloved Icon

What I liked about this book is that it looks at the values and the appeal of Audrey Hepburn without the breathless, fawning, ridiculously romanticized bias found in other recent biographies about her. The author has fun with her subject, which is rather bold when you're writing about a beloved and idolized icon. The author is as playfull with her subject as Holly Golightly, the role Audrey played with such luminosity in "Breakfast At Tiffany's." The writing is loose, full of quips and good advice. A lot of it is tongue-in-cheek, elegantly humorous, and charming--just like Audrey.

A Fun Read!

This is a fun read. A clever look at how Audrey Hepburn lived her life that is a must for fans and interesting even for casual readers. Part mini-biography and part fashion/lifesyle guide, it's cleverly written and never dull. Well researched (there are a few glitches here and there: Audrey did not play a lesbian in "Children's Hour", Shirley Maclaine did. And there is no evidence that Kate Hepburn was bisexual...)there were tidbits even I had never read about Audrey before (and I thought I'd read it all. Audrey and JFK? It's here!) Audrey was a class act in her life and her career and the world would be a better place if more people followed the principles that guided her life.

This utterly charming book is a clever blend of biography and commentary that is meant to show us how we can emulate one of the all-time style icons not only in her fashion sense, but also in the remarkable way she lived her life. The book travels somewhat chronologically through Audrey's life: through her childhood experiences in the war, her fantastic rise to stardom, her failures and successes in love and marriage, her dedication to charity, and finally to her passing from cancer in 1993. Woven into the elucidation of the many chapters of Audrey's life are author Pamela Keogh's observations on how we can apply Audrey's wisdom to similar situations in our own lives. I especially enjoyed reading about how Ms. Hepburn insisted on being professional in all her work sitations, and was noted for being gracious and charming with all the people she came in contact with. Unlike much of Hollywood today, Audrey was a model of decorum. This is much more than a book on Audrey's style...so much so that if you are interested soley in information on Ms. Hepburn's wardrobe choices, you may be disappointed. While there are nuggests of fashion advice throughout the book, the real focus is on how to live a remarkable life. In this sense, Ms. Keogh has created a fascinating and remarkably original book that anyone, regardless of their interest in fashion, can learn from and enjoy.
