A revolutionary breakthrough for systems organization at all levels

One of the challenges of getting people to "get more organized" at work or at home for that matter is the fact that people are adults. It's hard to motivate adults to become neat and clean simply because it is "good for them", however much one would like to hope so. Dr. Galsworth's book replaces the kind of policing-of-children approach seen in too many popular approaches to housekeeping (5S) and replaces it with a superbly effective process that she calls "5S+1: Visual Order." Visual Order certainly requires a clear, clean and safe work area. How else would visual information stick on previously dusty, grimy surfaces? But that is not the outcome. The outcome is Visual Order: order you can see; order that functions; order that liberates; order that inspires. I have applied Dr. Galsworth's practical and insightful suggestions to both my office and home workspaces with phenomenal results. Personally, my productivity has tripled. Visual Systems is the text book for this foundational level of transformation and the host of other tangible and intangible benefits that this process triggers in individuals and systems in any organization or workplace, professional or private. Invaluable!

World Class Reference

Few authors understand the magnitude of impact that visual devices have on a manufacturing shop floor as well as does Dr. Galsworth. She has taken what most people pass over superficially as an element of Lean Manufacturing (visual systems, yeah we got that) as a systematic, layer by layer levels of visuality, going from simple 5S devices such as borders and labels, to embedded foolproofing visuals that simply do not allow operator error. Throw out your other references; this is the only one you need!

This one's a keeper!

I found this book to be an extremely helpful guide when I was learning about Visual Systems. It's beneficial to get the full picture with real world anecdotes where the author has implemented her methodology. Other books I've read tend to be too abstract and theoretical. This book is real, fun to read, but serious, systematic, and comprehensive in its 5S/Visual Workplace approach. This was a very easy book to read and I still use it as a reference when our team gets stuck in our implementation. I look forward to reading her latest book, Visual Workplace, Visual Thinking.

It includes very wise and practical guidelines for real world implementation.We were so impressed with the book, that we arranged for the author to be the keynote speaker at our quality forum. The live presentation was a great reinforcement of the book. I have read this book 3 times, and plan to read it again soon. I gain new insights every time I read it.
