hopefully peter ends up with kitty pryde over mj...

ultimate spider-man by bendis and bagley is one of the best series out there. not as much action and non-stop bad guy fighting, but a good mix of that and a lot of peter parker being a teenager with problems (girls, bullies, being grounded, etc.) along with his spidey life. the series is great great great. only a few minor things that could be better: 1. i don't like how nick fury comes in and tells spider-man he's going to work his whole life for him and shield. the idea of peter being...trapped in a web? haha...well it isn't too cool. superheroes need to fight the good fight because they want to, not because shield will go and take away their superpowers (as fury has threatened) if they don't comply. 2. bendis needs to cut down on the tuchas talk. seriously if parker grew up in nyc today he'd more likely speak spanglish than yanglish. 3. geldoff.

Great story - so-so action

They feel alone and out-of-place, so it's destined that they would end up together - Peter Parker (Spider-man) and Kitty Pride (Shadowcat). But, things are never as smooth as they should be. Silver Sable has been hired to capture Spider-man and bring him in to her boss, so that he can see who it is under the mask. Things get hotter by the minute. OK. This one is kind of hard. It has an entertaining storyline, with a lot of wonderful character development, and the illustration work is excellent. On the down-side, though, there's not a lot of action here. My thirteen-year-old son gave up the book part way through, having found it boring and un-engaging. So, be clear about what you are getting here - a very entertaining story, but not a giant battle-royal between unbeatable superheroes. Overall, I liked this book, and am glad I read it. My son was unhappy with it, and didn't enjoy it. Therefore, I give this book a somewhat guarded recommendation.

Reprinting Peter and Kitty's first date, plus Silver Sable is after Spider-Man

First off, when you open up "Silver Sable: Ultimate Spider-Man, Volume 15," be sure that you read the reprint of "Ultimate Spider-Man Annual #1" before you read the Silver Sable story from "Ultimate Spider-Man" #86-90. This is because you have to be clear on what is happening between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson at this point in the series. That means you have to know that Peter has started seeing Kitty Pryde of the X-Men. Peter dumped MJ back in #78 because she will not listen to him and it is going to get her killed. Meanwhile, Kitty is no longer involved with Bobby Drake, and she gets it into her head that she should call Peter out of a clear blue sky and see if he would like to hang out together after school in what might be the most awkward phone call in the history of comic books. Peter and Kitty go to the mall and then have an interesting talk on the rooftop before Spider-Man and Shadowcat go off to fight the Shocker together. The story in this annual is just priceless, because not only does it have an extremely high cuteness level (cute is good), but it is a perfect solution to Peter's romantic problems. If he is right to be worried that anybody he dates is in danger, then a girlfriend who can phase through objects (and visa versa), makes perfect sense. I accept as gospel that in the end Peter and Mary Jane are going to get married and live happily ever after, but they are teenagers now and such side trips are part of the adolescent playbook. This story is just completely enjoyable from start to finish, when Kitty e-mails Peter that their battle with the Shocker made Yahoo, and in the end I round up on this collection because they included this story. The art is by Mark Brooks and Jaime Mendoza, rather than by Mark Bagley and Scott Hanna with the rest of the stories, but that is no cause for concern. But as I said, you need to know way MJ is going crazy that Peter seems happy and why Kitty is showing up to see him after school. Then we get to the Silver Sable storyline. Omega Red, a work-for-hire albino, mutant Russian new to the freelance world attacks the S.S. "Roxxon" when it comes to port in New York City, only to be stopped by Spider-Man. Mr. Roxxon (think evil rich guy) wants to know why he blew up an entire cargo ship and since Omega Red is in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody, he orders his secret operative, Silver Sable to question Spider-Man. So Silver and her Wild Pack start tracking Spider-Man, and since he keeps going to Midtown High, she concludes he must be a student there. But when her henchmen grab the target and bring him to her, it turns out to be Flash Thompson. He manages to escape and becomes a big hero, but now the words is out that Spider-Man is a student (or a teacher) at Midtown. That means that when security guards want to check out Peter's backpack, they are going to find his Spider-man costume. Another Strong Addition to the Series

This story arc focuses mainly upon Peter Parker and his developing relationship with Kitty Pride (aka Shadowcat). This is one of the things that myself and many others find to be so great about the Ultimate Spiderman series- it doesn't focus almost exclusively on Spiderman, but gives equal or greater time to Peter Parker's life and problems, which makes both him and his alter ego seem much more REAL. We see Ultimate Silver Sable and her Wolfpack and Ultimate Vulture as Spiderman's enemies (though it is unsure whether Sable IS Spidey's enemy) in this arc. As usual and expected of Ult Spidey, the artwork is stunning and the dialogue is clever, and again very REAL. Highly recommended to any reader, specially those who have collected the other 14 volumes. For those considering starting the series I recommend you go with the hardcovers which can contine 2 or 3 paperback volumes, usually with bonuses at the end, and can save you some money as well.
