Wow! This book caught me by surprise!

Skyra is bound and determined to rescue her little sister Mayla from the man who destroyed her family, world and life. Having joined the rebels she is fighting a loosing battle, but nothing, not even her life is as important as Mayla's survival: her little sister, is the heir to Andromeda, their home world. Eagle is assigned to a backwater space station of some importance processing incoming children captured in the war. Their minds are erased and they are given new identities. While he despises this process, his entire life, and his beliefs are about to change when one little girl arrives that his father desperately wants. TO TOUCH THE STARS surprised me. The beginning of the story was choppy and a little hard to follow because there was a lot of information getting introduced all at once. However, the story takes off and is very engrossing. Tess Mallory also is very good at misdirecting the reader, which I really like in a story. It makes it very hard to be able to put the book down! Skyra is possibly one of the strongest female characters I think I've ever read. She is a very driven woman and won't let anything stand in the way of getting her sister back. This is all very surprising because she comes from a very gentle, non-violent race of people and some of the things she does in the course of the war go totally against her inner nature. And yet, she is still very much a woman, passionate and wanting to be feminine. Eagle is the son of Zarn, Skyras sworn enemy and while Eagle doesn't know (for most of the book) Mayla is Skyra's sister, he is bound and determined to find the little girl and use her for his own means. He is burnt out on his fathers' war and sees Mayla as a means to make peace. In the meantime, he's dealing with Skyra who is both very formidable and someone he is very attracted too. TO TOUCH THE STARS is a very touching and emotional story that brings two characters together that can have no future. They hate each other, but because they are forced to work together to serve their own needs an attraction builds between them, I think that starts out of respect. The end of the story came as quite a surprise and rather than feeling rushed, was very believable. If you are looking for an excellent story, I would highly recommend TO TOUCH THE STARS if you can find a copy of this out of print book.

An engrossing read for those who like futuristics

I am a fan of futuristics, and "To Touch the Stars" was one of the best that I have read. The heroine, Skyra, takes Eagle prisoner, hoping that he will lead her to her imprisonsed sister Mayla. There is a lot of action and romance along the way, with a surprise development near the end. I enjoyed this romance because it avoided a lot of the cliches one can come upon in this genre and it is one which I will read again. Katsy
