A great companion to the Tintin series.

This book is absolutely necessary for any Tintin-addict (like myself). It goes into certain depth about each Tintin adventure, and gives explanations for the origins of the characters, and the plots. It also explains things you never thought had any significance. I really enjoyed it, its truly enlightening, and it taught me alot about my childhood hero: Tintin.

A lovely tribute to Tintin

I have loved Tintin adventures for as long as I can remember. This book is an excellent supplement to my collection. Peeters provides Tintin fans with a book by book examination, a brief history of the life of Herge, and an interesting section chronicling lesser known works of the author/illustrator. The photos of Herge's developmental sketches, as well as real-life influences upon the books are fascinating. Peeters also provides valuable analysis into the creation of the books following a timeline of current events, both worldwide and those affecting Herge personally.I should mention that while I found this book fun and enjoyable, overall it was a bit lacking. While it is not intended as a biography of Herge, the synopsis on the author was brief, as it was for many of the books. I heartily recommend this book to Tintin lovers, but be prepared to walk away wanting more. Much like when you finish reading the 28 full length adventures of Tintin, and realize there will never be anymore to come.

Tintin and the world of Herge

I have been a fan of Tintin since I was 5 years old. This book filled me in on the entire story of Tintin and his creator. This book is a good buy for a true Tintin fan.

A good insight into the mind of Herge

As reviews of herge go, this is not only good, but downright rare! Herge only gave one interview in his lifetime, to Numa Sadoul. The only other work on herge was Harry Thompson's excellent 1991 biography on Herge and Tintin. Thompson's (apt name for a biographer!! Which twin is he?!) book is full of detail, and for that, is probably more valuable than Peeter's work. However, Peeter's book is chock full of original illustrations, shows the evolution in Herge's work, and has a great deal of Herge's private Tintin memorabilia. well worth a critical look.

Tintin and the World of Hergé - an illustrated masterpiece.

In his book, Tintin and the World of Hergé, Benoit Peeters cleverly and concisely charts the progress of Hergé, the master of the cartoon format, and Tintin, one of the world's most famous Belgians. Benoit Peeters uses archive material from the files of the Hergé Foundation, a remarkable collection of memorabilia from Stephane Steedman, and his own first-hand experiences and interviews with Hergé. His skill in writing and accessible knowledge combine to make this book a reliable and useful source of knowledge and humour associated with the classic works of Hergé.
