Great book for the beginner tie dye artist

As an advanced tie dye artist I purchased this book for my apprentice to learn the basics. After reading this book and working the designs I saw a huge improvement in his finished product. Each dye is as unique as the artist doing the dye. The basics are all the same for everyone. check out our wearable works of art at [...] buy this book if you are just starting out or just want to improve your style. Jeremy St.Rebel

What I was looking for

This is a short book that gives a good overview of the tie dye process and was just what I was looking for. Beginner information that's easily understood with some tips for some of the more common tying patterns. The first half of the book is history of tie dye and information about how other cultures use tie dye. It was very interesting. The second half is information on how to dye. Yes, some of the information on mixing the dyes themselves is a bit scanty, but not enough for me to knock off a star because you can get dying information from your dye supplier. The information on folding and tying techniques covers diagonal stripes, horizontal stripes, bullseye patterns, spiral, v-shaped yoke and a couple Japanese techniques. It absolutely de-mystifies the process of making gorgeous colored shirts and offers information about how certain colors work on the fabric and how to accommodate them so you don't drown out the lighter colors. I got the Kindle edition which may sound odd because of the Kindle's greyscale e-ink, the diagrams are clear and easy to follow in it and the sources section at the back offers many online sources including the store owned by the author so you can see examples of the gorgeous finished project there and get inspired for what you want to try to do after you master the basics in this book. I think it will be a great book for my daughter and I to work from, for her to learn how for the first time and for me to remember.

Tie Dye made easy

I purchased this book and found the folding techniques to be very useful. I got tired of making the same tie dye circles and was looking for something different. This book shows several detailed folding instructions to get different results. This list of resources in the back was helpful as well.

Excellent guide for a beginner

I've purchased several tie dye books and DVDs, this is my primary "go to" book. Author does a fantastic job: 1. Tells you at a high level the end-to-end process of tie dying 2. Has text, accompanied by black and white photos on how to tie. 3. Has at least one color photo of each finished tie dye project. You will understand how to tie dye several different types of patterns, and be successful at your first attempt, if you follow the information and advice.

Best starter book

This book was the best starter book I've found on tie-dye. The steps are easy to follow and many resources are given on creating great tie-dye from scratch. I've met the author at craft festivals where they show the clothes. They are amazing people and create incredible artwork. Better than anything out there. The eldest son just inherited the business and I look forward to what new things they create. Their company is Harmony Enterprises and are located at: http://harmonytie-dyes.com
