One of the best traditional wilderness books I have read

For those who have a strong interest in traditional wilderness life this is the best reading I have come across yet. I first "discovered" Anton Money when I read his four-part Outdoor Life articles he wrote in 1972. This book is an expansion of those articles written a few years later. Both this book (and his Outdoor life pieces), tell the story of him coming to Western North America after the First World War. Eventually getting married and taking his wife and newborn son 650 mile into the Yukon wilderness by dogsled where he (very successfully) panned for gold. He writes of building cabins, boats, growing and hunting food for the long Yukon winters. Probably the best part is Anton Money himself. He seems like an extraordinary person, intelligent, optimistic, energetic and full of self confidence without being reckless. You also notice he has an appreciation for the spectacular scenery, nature and the native cultures not overly common amongst many white men in the wilderness during that period.
