Perfect set up

I loved it. I call this perfect set up because this is the book that got me into romance novels. It "set me up" for more and more readings by Ms Lindsey. I've enjoyed reading her books very much. Looking forward to more.

Wish She'd Do Sequels!

Melissa MacGregor has problems-sixteen of them, all relations-her uncles, to be exact. (And six of them are named Ian, after their father, which should be confusing, but it's really just a lot of fun.) Her uncles it seems, have nothing better to do (or, perhaps, nothing they like to do more) than scare off any prospective suitor for Melissa's hand-and they're very good at it. Hence, Melissa's problems. Why, if it weren't for her aunt Kimberly and uncle Lachlan's (from Love Me Forever) friends in London being willing to sponsor her, she'd probably never marry at all! Lincoln Ross Burnett, seventeenth viscount Cambury, soon finds he shares Melissa's problems-all sixteen of them. As a lonely boy of ten he met the "savages" as he now terms them, and tried to befriend them. A falling out left them enemies, and when Lincoln's mother sent him away to relatives in England, he put them and the past behind him. But now he has returned to Scotland, where a chance meeting with Melissa MacGregor at the very same pond where he first met "the savages" leaves him instantly smitten. This is one of my favorite of Lindsey's stories, and I've often longed for a sequel-a not unreasonable hope, since the book itself is a sequel to Love Me Forever. The plot seems tailor made for a series-sixteen hunky ever-quarrelsome (and quarreling) Scots, all the sons of the same randy Scots father (though with different mothers), all unwed. Perhaps the Mallory series has put Lindsey off the idea of another series, but I'd be the first in line should she write this series. (Sixteen does seem a bit daunting; perhaps three of them could be married off per book?) The characters in Ian MacFearson's (the randy, bastardizing Scottish father of this unwieldy brood) family alone would make the series well worth reading. These over-protective rogues provide some major obstacles to the lovers' happiness, and are more handy with their fists than with words-though they're no slouches there, either. When they have reason to fear Lincoln's temper may be a threat to Melissa, their solution is to provoke him and see how well he can hold his temper. A scene where Lincoln takes them on, an uncle at a time, is hilarious, and this book contains some of Lindsey's best and brightest humor, thanks mainly to these rambunctious, rascally characters. One of Lindsey's best, The Pursuit well withstands the test of time, as this recent re-release proves. Reviewed by Lee M Copyright © 2006 CK2S Kwips and Kritiques. All rights reserved.

Great Story - Loved It!!!!

Melissa MacGregor was looking forward to leaving the highlands for the social world of London, both for the excitement and to escape the over protectiveness of her mother's sixteen madcap and sometimes bumbling brothers. Well-meaning, as they were, but lordy where would Melissa ever find a suitor who couldn't be intimidated by them!Lincoln Ross Burnett, viscount Cambury had grown up in the highlands but at the age of ten he'd been sent away to the care of his uncle after a particulary bad beating from the boys he'd been running wild with.. After the death of his father, his mother had locked herself away to mourn, and now, nineteen years later he's returned home to try to put to rest the bitter resentment and rage he felt for his mother. Trying to find a spot where he could recall happier memories, Linc happened upon a tranquil scene but the moment Melissa stood and faced him, he world would never be the same and both would become the unwilling participants in the re-emergence of the MacFearson clan feud of the past.Having never read Ms. Lindsey before, I must say that this book was for me a real treat! I absolutely loved it! The dialog was fresh, the brothers MacFearson were a real hoot with delightful sibling squabbles that had me laughing out loud. It had all the elements I look for in a completely satisfying read, fast-paced, sensually stimulating, uproariously funny and heartbreakingly tearful - all of this in one great story! The secret behind, Linc's banishment from his home provides a real twist to this story. You've got to love it!

Loved it! Much wit and humor.

I have read nearly all of Lindsey's books and this one was a delight. She handles the dialogue among many characters so well -- I was laughing out loud. The story was fun and refreshing -- and sensual. I can't believe anyone gave this less than 5 stars. It was a joy to see Kimberly and Lachlan back -- with a grown up child and all those brothers!

The Pursuit Wins!

I have read all of J.L.'s books and I really enjoyed this book. While it may not rank as one of my favorite J.L. books, the story moved very fast as all her books usually do, and the dialogue many times was witty, especially with Melissa. I couldn't put it down and ended up reading it in a day. I also enjoyed the storyline, showing mature hero and heroine characters. The only thing I felt was a little over the top were the uncles and how involved they were in Melissa's life and what they would do to prevent the two from getting together.
