Great Devotional for Girls and Boys 7-10

BI did receive another devotional from Tyndale (a complimentary copy) recently that I want to review. It is one that I will hold onto--but I will definitely hold onto it, because I do like it--a lot! It is called "Did You Know? Devotions 2" by Nancy S. Hill It has 365 devotions, so it will take you through a whole year (you really get your money's worth =) ) and includes a verse, an interesting question and the answer and then a related thought about God for children to think about. I read several to my daughters yesterday and realized very quickly that they are too young right now for this book. It is listed as being for ages 6-10. I would usually recommend it for children 7-10 unless the child is a very curious or gifted 6 year old. I was surprised by how much I like this book and I do definitely look forward to reading it to my children when they are older. It would be a great devotional for a mixed group of children--both girls and boys. I think it's often harder to find good devotionals that will engage both boys and girls because they often have a lot of different interests (at least my daughters and son do). It reminds of something that a friend shared with me about why young boys are slower to become good readers. There has been some research done that has shown that typically men and boys read nonfiction and don't prefer to read fiction. Women, on the other hand, tend to read mostly fiction. In the past, most of the books for written for younger children and beginning readers has been fiction. Now, publishers are coming out with beginning readers that are nonfiction. It's wonderful--because that's what boys want to read! I think the same might be said of this devotional. The topics that Nancy Hill has chosen for her daily devotionals are things that would be interesting to both boys and girls--they are nonfictional, informational types of questions, but there's a lot of variety to them. What a great devotional book to share with our children!

Did You Know Devotions 2 by Nancy Hill

I requested and received the book Did You Know Devotions 2 by Nancy Hill from Tyndale House Publishers. It is a book that is for the ages 6-10, but I think that anyone would benefit from this book. Each page has a did you know fact and how it relates to everyday life for child or adult and has a biblical truth and biblical verse. Such facts included in the book are: What's the best way to tell time on a ship? When was it inconvienient to listen to a stereo system? How did a frog help invent the battery? I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the first page to last and learned some things I did not know and some I did. I feel that this book is an excellent addition to any child/adults library. Each bit of trivia relates also on how we relate to God. Some of the facts were funny and I laughed out loud at some of them. As I was reading I shared some of the trivia with my family. Anyone can pick up and read this book starting on the first page and go for a whole year. I intend to pass this book onto my gransons knowing that they will enjoy it as much as I did. This will make the perfect stocking stuffer this Christmas. Taken from (Did You Know Devotions 2) by (Nancy Hill). Book Review Did you know devotions

The One Year Did You Know Devotions 2 was written by Nancy S.Hill. This book is for ages 6-10. The book has interesting facts and trivia for each day of the year. Each day has a Bible verse and a biblical truth to go along with each fact. Some of the types of facts are: "Did you know that snakes smell with their tongues"? "Did you know that the first rubber band was made from a bottle"? You get 365 of these type of interesting facts in this book. The book starts with Januuary 1st and runs all the way through December 31st. This makes it very easy for kids to be able to do devotions on their own. I like this book because my children would be able to do this on their own, and I love all the trivia in the book. The only thing I did not like, and this is a personal preference, is that it uses different scripture versions than what we use. Overall if you are looking for a great devotion book for your children with lots of interesting trivia this book would be great for you. *** Disclaimer*** I was given this book free of charge to review, because of my memebership with Tyndale.

Satisfies questions inquiring minds want to know while providing spiritual insight...

"The One Year Did You Know Devotions 2", written by former teacher Nancy Hill, is a daily devotional which is especially designed for kids ages 6-10 but will interest "kids" of all ages. By answering 365 extraordinary questions, one for every day of the year, such as "how did a frog help invent the battery?" or "why was the hopperdozer invented?", the book provides an amazing array of both interesting and zany facts. Along with these fun facts come appropriate Scripture verses and simple practical application. The combination makes each day's reading enticing and memorable. Kids have questions and love answers. Because "The One Year Did You Know Devotion 2" is packed full of trivia it's sure to keep young readers coming back for more on a daily basis. But don't let the trivia fool you because this devotional provides enough biblical application to make it a useful tool for bringing spiritual growth to children. It's not too much or too little. If you are looking for a devotional to satisfy a young curious mind while bringing them greater understanding of the Bible--look no further. As a former teacher and children's ministry leader I highly recommend you pick up a copy of "The One Year Did You Know Devotions 2" for your favorite kid. The "child within you" will emerge and you'll be amazed by what you discover just flipping through the pages. Of course that means that you'll find it difficult to let go of long enough to wrap but can find comfort in knowing that the receiver of this gift will not absolutely love it and be very excited about sharing what they discover with others. Terrific Devotion for Any Age

The One Year Did you Know Devotions 2 is the perfect devotional for children and parents. Inside you'll find trivia concerning just about everything from U.S. Presidents to food groups and animals. You'll feel like John Tesh as you spout off the new facts you've learned from this daily book of knowledge. Along with the trivia, you'll read a Bible verse that corresponds with the fact and a paragraph devotion tying it all together very nicely. The difficult part is waiting for the next day to read the new fact. I just jumped in and read as many as I could. Author Nancy Hill has created a terrific devotional for any age.
