different genre of romance for Diana Palmer but you're pulled in from chapter 1.

Audio version - Wow!

I'm doing the audio CD version, am halfway through. At first it was really hard to follow the action and all the races and the weird names and stuff, but eventually I started to catch up with it. I love the developing rapport between Dtimu and Maddie, and the tones of voice when you listen to their dialogue really adds a lot, especially to the image I'm getting of Dtimu. He's starting to sound really HOT! I highly recommend having a listen!! I have requested the book version from library so I can see how the names are spelled; I think it might be a little easier to follow, but I really enjoy the audio, too. Addendum: I finished it. I LOVED it!!! It's so different for Palmer's books. It's a really good world building, and it would be great if Palmer wrote some more. True, it's not really a romance, but it could be a great setup for one. I really, really enjoyed it.

Couldn't Put It Down

I love Diana Palmer's writing for her vivid descriptions that make you lose yourself from the reality where you sit, and feel transported to a new and different place! The phrase "couldn't put it down" is overused, but I literally couldn't put it down to eat or go to bed! Her delightful main characters are well-developed and the relationship between them is what makes the story run, for me. Her plot and conclusions were well-thought out. Her wonderful sense of humor permeates the work, as well as her sensitivity and caring nature. If you like Diana Palmer's other works, remember that this is a different genre and so the plot has to be different. But, if you put aside the usual romance paths and open your mind to a new experience, you will not be disappointed. As usual for a Diana Palmer book, this one is researched to the hilt to give a realistic feel. One of the best things about this book, in my humble opinion, is that it is rated G to PG if you count the "h" or "d" words and mild violence, since there are battles and aftermath and torture. It ranks up there with Robert Heinlein's young adult books, though Diana Palmer's style is much different. I encourage readers who didn't rank it highly to give it a second read. Without the expectations, you might find it deserves more stars. If my children were still children, I would encourage them to read it. My now college-age daughter did, and loves it! She's an avid Diana Palmer fan like me and loves romance. We also enjoy science fiction/fantasy. A writer can write well regardless of genre. Just because Diana Palmer excels at romance doesn't mean she can't also excel at science fiction. Many of her romances involve mercenaries or have a police connection. There are many technical points in most of her books; an early one had a survivable small plane crash and a well-researched plausible cause for it: a magneto failure. It is a logical extension of her talents to imagine plausible tech for a future war, with medical tech and living computers. As Diana can give beautiful and vivid descriptions of the land and small-town people in her romance books, so she gives wonderful descriptions of technical points in Morcai Battalion that are clear to laymen. Anyone can find mistakes in an author's works, if you look hard enough. Good writing shines despite. So does the love that goes into it. I love the Morcai Battalion, and can't wait for the sequels!! Disclaimer: Although, I try to be objective, I am Diana Palmer's sister. Usually, I don't review Diana's books but this one outdid them all, so I couldn't resist. I don't read her books to be nice, I read them because they are excellent! Morcai Battalion is my favorite, because I was 11 when she let me proofread her pages, eagerly waiting by the typewriter for the next page! I saw this book in its original form, and I love the new one even better. Because I had read the original many times, I expected it not to surprise me, but I di

The Morcai Battalion by Diana Palmer

All I can say this book is graet ,cant wait for the next one to come out. Diana Palmer keep us reading ! When is the new one coming out ?

Not the usual Diana Palmer

I bought this book expecting to read the usual Diana Palmer feel good book which wouldn't tax my brain. That was certainly not what I found to be true. I agree with a few of the other reviewers that it started off a little rough, but once you have the "society" down it was a good and fun read. It has a dark tone much like is what is so popular now with all the vampire stuff but I am happy to report that although there was bloodletting there was nothing blood sucking about it. There is enough paranormal in it to prove interesting and surprisingly enough the main male characters were not smokers, which has always been a turn off for me. In many ways this book reminded me of an Ann McCaffrey "Freedom" series book. At any rate I would definitely recommend anyone read it and if you are uncertain how you will like Palmer as a fantasy writer, she will surprise you. I am definitely going to read the next 2 books in the series.

Amazing book

I have read some of the comments on this book that were not too good, but I found this book to be amazing. I have been a fan of Diana Palmer for many years and when this book came out I was reluctant to read it. It was a sci-fi book and I don't read sci-fi as a rule. I have read some but it is not my book of choice. I usually read novels, romance, and mystery. I think that Diana Palmer took a sci-fi and made it enjoyable and fun to read. The action in the book is good, the timing, and a little humor too. It has all the ingrediants that I like in my reading. I can't wait for the next sci fi book from her. Perhaps I should read more of the sci-fi out there. However if you read this expecting a romance then you might be disappointed. There are elements of attraction between some of the characters but no real romance. It is a good read and I really enjoyed this book.
