Not you ho-hum Amish story

The Mockingbird's Song is a wonderful addition to Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Greenhouse Mystery series. Although second in the series, it can be easily read as a standalone book as the author recaps well the events from the first book. I like Brunstetter's style of writing and her honest and redemptive approach to down-to-earth struggles that her characters encounter. The characters are strong, resilient, and realistic with depth to their emotions, strengths, and foibles. I could easily connect with them. The journey through grief is one of the main focal points of the story and the author fittingly portrays it through the various King family members, each in their own way dealing with the tragedy of past months. The tidbits of information regarding the hobby of birding added a lot of interest to the story. The Mockingbird's Song is not just another trite novel about the Amish. It is one that reminds readers about the importance of family, faith, and hope and perhaps new love too, amidst the aftermath of life-changing events. With the mystery of the vandalism to the greenhouse unresolved and questions about some other relationships, I can't wait to read the third book of the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions are my own.

Trust in the Lord and move forward.

The Mockingbird's Song, Amish Greenhouse Mystery Book 2 By Wanda Brunstetter Publisher: Shiloh Run Press an imprint of Barbour Publishing Release Date: August 5, 2020 Reviewed by mrsboone4, Green Forest, AR, USA Since this is book 2 in a series, it continues from the first story of an Amish family living in Strasburg, Pennsylvania who owns a commercial greenhouse and sells them many accessories associated with having a greenhouse, even so much as hand made items and honey from their own honeybees. In the original story, a tragedy befell the main family, and three strong, robust men were taken, too soon. This second book recaps that, to make it more of a stand-alone book that you can read by itself. In Mockingbird's Song, we follow young widow Sylvia as she struggles with depression from losing her precious husband and has to force herself to pull herself together for her two young children who depend upon her. Sylvia finds a new hobby with her younger brother Henry as they both decide they enjoy birding or bird watching. They meet a young Amish man, named Dennis who is new to their area, when they are out birding. It turns out he enjoys birding just as much as the two of them. The story develops Sylvia's relationship with Dennis, it is a sweet romance and almost a "who done it" mystery. The mystery elements from both books aren't explained in book two, but there's enough of the story there to keep you interested and longing for more or the conclusion. All in all, I give this book 5 stars, yes I'd like to have the mysteries of the greenhouse solved, but hopefully that will come in book three. Wanda Brunstetter writes stellar Amish fiction. She knows Amish people and knows about how they lead their lives. A lot of people are curious about them, probably because they are a mystery in their Plain Ways. I give my thanks to Shiloh Run Press for this complimentary copy of the book and I was under no obligation to post a review.
