The Farther You Run

Imagine loosing your best friend to cancer. This past May Samantha lost hers, her best friend for more than half her life. Juliana, her "one and only", was now gone. Now she has no one to relate to, and no one to share her deepest secrets with. No way does Samantha want to go back to dance class with out Juliana. In Samantha's eyes there's nothing she can do. All she can do is move on, and so far its been working. She hadn't even yet showed any emotions about the loss of Juliana. Unexpectedly, Samantha meets Mona in summer school. They both failed English, so they already have one thing in common. They immediately click. It turns out that Mona's mother is bi-polar, and that has been a huge struggle for Mona. Growing up, she's gone to a ton of new schools, and was always having to make new friends. In a way, the things they both have been through in their lives made them be able to relate to one another. Neither of them get along with their mothers, so they can also relate to each other in that way. They become the best of friends. By the end of summer they're already planning to buy an apartment together in San Francisco. They then find jobs and boyfriends. Life seems to be going great for the two of them, and it seems as if Samantha has a new best friend. But things don't always stay this perfect. Right before the anniversary of Juliana's death, things start to fall apart for Samantha. Memories of Juliana keep coming back to her, and she's starting to miss her more and more. She cries all the time, and can't get Juliana out of her head. This soon starts to irritate Mona, and soon Samantha and Mona's friendship starts to fade. In order for their friendship to reconcile they need to sort things out between them, because they both really do need each other. The author, Davida Wills Hurwin, of The Farther You Run, does an excellent job in writing this book. The reader is constantly entertained, and wondering what will happen next. It's an easy read, and I would specifically recommend this book to women. It holds a lot of common issues that women face every day. The issue of mother child relationships is a big one. Both of the main characters don't get along with their mothers, and you can see how their relationships transforms throughout the novel. The girls also have to worry about another common issue among women, boys! I really enjoyed reading this book, there was nothing about it that I didn't like. And like I said before, I would truly recommend it.

Good Sequal

I thought that this book was a great sequel to A TIME FOR DANCING. It didnt leave you confused about anything like some sequals do. It really summed it all up and I felt I got everything out of it and I didnt feel that there should be another book to complete. I really thought it was great and everyone should read it but they should read the 1st one before this one.

you will bawl

i'm not usually a crier when i read, but this book brought on the tears. sam will make you cry. if you read it without reading a time for dancing, it wont have the same effect on you. this is one of the best sequels i have ever read.

it should be more then 5 stars.....

- The farther you run is the best sequel to A time for dancing (1st book).. at first i thought that the farther you run couldn't be as good as a time for dancing. But, It's still funny, heart wrenching and makes it so hard to not cry when you read it a second time. It's written just like the first book with points of veiws of different people. There are a few surprises which i dont want to give away. But if you read a time for dancing you can't pass this sequel. The book is still about friendship and grief and memories that will make it worth while!

WHAT A GOOD FOLLOW-UP

... A Time For Dancing is, and probably always will be my favorite book. I have never cried so much for a book! When I heard there was going to be a second book, I first thought: good, hopefully it can match up to the first one... but then I got to thinking, what can you possibly write about, after what had happened, that would be somewhat interesting. When I first started reading, I was kind of confused about the purpose of the book... but then I realized that I couldn't put it down. Last night I finished it and it is SO good. I cried through the whole second half of the book. I finished it at about 3:00am and I would have thought that my parents heard me sobbing. THIS BOOK WAS GREAT...IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE FIRST BOOK ( A TIME FOR DANCING), BUY IT AND READ IT, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT...
