Phoebe Caldicot has been financially supporting her brother Thomas as he studies to become a cleric when one of her charges sneaked off for a clandestine meeting with an officer in Sydney Garden. Phoebe is dismissed her for Lucilla's foolish act. Phoebe soon receives another visit by a woman who claims to be her fairy godmother who gives her a Season in London. Phoebe is shocked to discover that her next door neighbors are the Saundertons.
