A Sensual Journey for the Erotica Reader

A savage land. A savage husband. Bushido and sexuality. Katie O'Roarke was brought to Japan a virgin bride hungry for the touch of a man. Wed to Lord Carlton to up her status and fund his debauched lifestyle she finds herself in a foreign land struggling to protect the financial interests of her father from her husband's excesses. When an encounter with one of the legendary Samurai lords, Shintaro, leads to an impassioned obsession her adventures in Japan take a sensual turn. Fleeing a violent attack from Lord Carlton, Katie is found by Akira, a young Samurai warrior. Brought to Shintaro by Akira she will learn the ways of the Samurai as warrior and lover. But Japan is a land in turmoil as Western influences threaten to destroy the Samurai ways of honor and loyalty and Katie's husband will stop at nothing to continue his secure himself a fortune. She will have to fight to save those she loves proing herself a true follower of Bushido. I read a bit about Bacarr's previously released book The Blonde Geisha and while I intended to read it never did get around to it. Getting my hands on The Blonde Samurai I am pleased to say that I will be picking up more of Bacarr's work in the future. Why? Because she knows how to write an engaging first person narrative!!! Told from the perspective of Katie O'Roarke herself, as if she is writing a memoir, The Blonde Samurai gives readers a lot to digest as the story unfolds. From Lord Carlton's passion for spanking to the basics of the fashions of the era each scene is highly visible without much imagination required. Richly detailed and obviously decently researched I found myself easily transported from contemporary time and place into a nineteenth century London and Tokio. I had hoped for this to be a bit more romantic in all honesty but with the Samurai code coming into play that part is very subtle. Katie's relationship with Shintaro lacked chemistry for me as a reader and I think some of that had to do with how little we know about who he is as the hero of the story. For fans of M/F/M or M/M erotica this story features quite a bit of both with a little bit of F/F and M/M/F as well. I don't care for spanking and there's quite a lot of it in the early chapters as Katie explains Lord Carlton's tastes and behavior. If you enjoy that, ropes and knots, light bondage and voyeurism you'll be pleased to find those naughty bits as well. Overall, I read it more for the story than the erotic aspects and enjoyed it though I found it really implausible. But hey, it's fiction! It was entertaining. Most of the erotic scenes weren't quite what I was expecting (I think I was anticipating it to be more romantica than pure erotica) so if you're into erotica AND historical fic I think you'll enjoy The Blonde Samurai a lot.

It really was the cover...

...that intrigued me enough to read the book. Boy , am I glad I took that step. An extremely well-written book that will keep you spellbound from start to finish. Do yourself a favor and pick this up. You won't be sorry.

Japanese erotic fiction

The story takes place in the latter 19th century, right around the same time as the movie The Last Samurai (Two-Disc Special Edition) is set. Like the Tom Cruise film, this novel centers around an epoch in which the Samurai found themselves becoming obsolete in between the development of rifles and a changing political landscape in Japan. The heroine of the story is Katie, a feisty Irish American who finds herself in a disastrous arranged marriage to a British businessman. She travels to Japan, both to be by her husband's side as well as to ensure that her father's $$ is not swindled by her pernicious spouse. Along the way, she becomes enraptured by a Samurai named Shintaro. As a guy, I've always been drawn to erotic fiction that is written by women. It's good to see eroticism as it's approached by the other gender. This book does not disappoint in that respect. As a spice novel should, the author doesn't pull any punches when describing to us Katie's erotic interludes with Shintaro & her indoctrination into the Samurai culture. The major negative of the book is the premise for who it's written for. As it is set in the 1870s, it is written as though the target-audience is high society female Londoners of the late 19th century. This is all well & good, but the narrative constantly seems to "apologize" for speaking of naughty bedroom deeds. Back in the 1870s, this book would have surely caused many readers to be shocked & moritified. Nowadays, the lustful descriptions are far less scandalous & are, in fact, almost commonplace. Other than that, I was very satisfied with the storyline and the twists & turns of the plotline. The sex scenes were graphic and Bacarr doesn't shy away from crass words. That's an asset in a book like this. On a personal note, I was based in Japan while I was in the Navy, and the love of my life was a Japanese translator. On top of that, I'm a big fan of Japanese porn! Hence, this book was up my alley on several fronts. Whether Japanese culture or the Samurai code-of-honor have ever interested you, I would nonetheless recommend this book. If women's erotic fiction wrapped in the cloak of a plot that incorporates the mystery of the far east sounds like a fascinating combination, then you can't go wrong with The Blonde Samurai.

It is what it is - Victorian Tittilation

Long before the modern erotic book market exploded some 10 years ago, you could find 'Victorian' naughty books sorted under "anonymous" at the top of the book shelves at local book stores. They were naughty tittilation written over a hundred years ago for snickering uptight Victorians at the turn of the century. This book is very much in that genre and vein. It's definitely not a historical; nor is it a modern erotic kinky book. Instead, it is very much influenced by Victorian erotica: master-subject class distinctions are observed, which can make it feel very cold and aloof. But this was the erotica of the period: written by hacks for quick sales and often featuring light sado-masochism. Victorian women maintained their innocence throughout their 'adventures' - something that can be hard to resonate with the modern woman. The bad guys are moustache twirlers and the good guys virtuous. The author did a good job of reinterpreting those Victorian novels, though I wish the cover had been more appropriate to the period feel. It's made to look like a modern historical fiction with an erotic undertone but really should have had the lurid covers of the period from which it takes its cues. It is an easy read though printed on very cheap paper. It can be a nice way to while away an afternoon.

An erotic novel that is beautifully written

I must admit when I chose The Blonde Samurai, I didn't realize that it was an erotic novel. Yes, I'm a grown up and yes, I know all about those things, but just didn't know this was chock full of graphically sexual stuff!!! But our heroine, Katie O'Roarke, born into a family that made their fortune the hard way - they earned it, is married to an English 'gentleman' who is too kinky for words, and she won't let him touch her. No prob. He has other playmates. They are taken to Japan to look over her father's railroad interests, and while her husband is away, she meets a hunky, sexy Samurai named Shintaro. The attraction is mutual, and eventually he takes her virginity, and then some. Now, some of the kinky things she saw in England aren't so kinky any more! If you haven't read sexually graphic material before, you may be wide eyed, but author Jina Bacarr writes so beautifully, especially of the beauty and culture of Japan, you won't blush as much as reading a lovely love story between a blonde Samurai and a for real true sexy Samurai. Good read.
