Love the story!

Love the courage of this woman and the protectiveness of her brother. A time when a woman could still act like a woman and have a man's position. A woman that can still have a godly attitude and trust in her Creator to make it all right knowing God is in control and all she has to do is work the way she wants to and trust in all she can be for God. Love this story. Loved the series. I'm reading everything I can buy from this author!

Another winner by Cathy Marie Hake

I've read all of Cathy Hake's full-length novels and almost all of her novellas. This one is as full of interesting historical detail, fun, inspiration, loveable characters, and plot twists as any of them. Taylor is a wonderful character, the kind of person one would want to know in real life. The story is replete with defeats of readers' expectations in some places, plot twists that keep Cathy Hake's stories from becoming formulaic. Something surprising is always happening. I heartily recommend That Certain Spark and all of Cathy Marie Hake's novels. But if you're a sour-puss, don't waste your time: these are laugh-out-loud stories a good part of the time.

REFRESHING!

That Certain Spark by Cathy Marie Hake Twins apply for the positions of veterinarian and town doctor in Texas. But the town got more than they bargained for. The town doctor isn't a man like they expected, oh-no, it's a woman. What self respecting town has a female doctor? Well Enoch and Taylor Bestmen set out to prove the town's backward thinking men - wrong. Taylor's skill is unsurpassed and yet the local yokel's are unwilling to bend. Will Taylor be able to win them over? This splendidly written book is fascinating and descriptive. I wanted to throttle a couple of characters and found myself empathizing with the heroine. How difficult it must have been for the first generations of female doctors. I adored the camaraderie that was built between the siblings and several of town's forward thinking citizens. This book was carefully researched and historically astute. Cathy Marie Hake doesn't leave any reader wanting with this book. She creates such down-to-earth characters in her book that it's easy to fall in love with them over and over again. I hope there will be a series made out of this book. Did Not Disappoint

Gooding, Texas got so much more than it expected when Taylor Bestman arrived as the new doctor. A female doctor, that is. The majority of the town is opposed to having a woman treat them, and Karl Van de Vort is treated almost immediately after Dr. Bestman arrives ~ but only because he is unconscious. Waking up to find her next to his bedside in her scarlet dress did little to improve his opinion, even though she had saved his life. Despite the opposition to Taylor's line of work, Karl is determined to protect her when he discovers that some in the town are determined to harm her. Cathy Marie Hake's books always make me laugh and That Certain Spark did not disappoint. If you have read any of her books in the past, you will be reacquainted with characters from her past books. Even though it is a sequel of sorts, the book can stand by itself without any difficulty ~ although you might have to search out the other books when you are done! I cannot even begin to imagine the difficulty a female doctor would have had so many years ago. Cathy Hake created a believable character in Taylor that is full of spunk, determination and intelligence. The story has a little bit of everything ~ romance, suspense, and plenty of fun dialogue between Taylor and Karl.

Another great novel by Cathy Marie Hake!

As alluded to in the title, this was yet another great book by CMH! I have yet to find a book of hers that I haven't liked, and I have them all! I do warn the readers, however, that you have to read the other stories in the series in order to keep the characters straight. I love the fact that I can read wonderfully entertaining fiction and get an inspirational message, too. I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series. You won't be sorry.

Wonderfuly Enjoyable

That Certain Spark is about Dr. Taylor Bestman as she struggles to win over the small town of Gooding, Texas. She and her twin brother Enoch both signed a four year contract, him to be the towns new veterinarian and her the towns doctor.. The town is shocked to find out that Dr. Taylor Bestman is a woman and if that isn't bad enough she wears the color red for crying out loud! Most of the town wants her gone they refuse to send their family to her and someone has even been breaking into her house messing around with her medical supplies! The mayor suggests they start a petition if she can get a hundred people to sign their names claiming they want to keep her as town doctor she can stay if not they end the contract and Taylor goes somewhere else leaving her brother to finish out his contract without her. No one said it would be easy but Taylor wont give up without a fight and maybe she will find love on the way. Karl Van der Vort works as a blacksmith and his opinion on the matter is that having a girl as a doctor is just plain indecent! But when serious injury comes to his leg he has no other choice but to go ask for her help! I loved this book it was such a good read it had been a while since I had actually been able to finish a book cover to cover just because I would get bored with what I was reading, with this story on the other hand I had no such problem. I found myself falling in love with the main characters Dr. Taylor and Karl Van der Vort, they were both just so very enjoyable to read about and you could definitely feel the spark between them as you read I never saw anything in this story that turned me off I loved it all. I highly recommend this book
